$100 FS, but $XX for extras - medicals

Post by XJET »

So, went to the doc, and all of a sudden, what was once $100 flat/full service, has turned into a brothel a la carte.

45 extra for ECG

35 extra for hearing test

oh, plus the flat fee of a hundred, just to get your balls held.

And no it wasn't just my manipulative doctor doing this, I called around, and guess what, everyone else was doing the same, prices varied for the "extras" but they were all charging for them...

Can't wait to get the $55 "fee" which I'm sure has gone up and even if you pay it they'll still send collections after you....

/end rant

I just had a Cat1 done...

The cost was 125bucks for the medical itself, which Im told around my area is the norm. (and the price is the same regardless of Cat1 or Cat3)

On top of that, I had to get an audiogram done and an ECG. The audiogram cost me an additional 75 bucks, but the ECG is covered by the provincial government, so I paid ziltch for that.

So that was meh. But my favourite part is the nice letter I got from Transport two weeks ago saying I owe them 55 bucks for processing the medical... TC, @#$! you Im not paying haha.

Ahh ... the joys of pating 75$ for a Cat 1 renewal two weeks ago 8)

As for the initial Cat 1 several years ago (2000). It was brutal at 150$ for the medical, 55$ TC Fee, 55$ for the Audio, and another 35$ for ECG. So all in all 300$.

Can't wait till i get to switch over from once a year to two

It's friggin criminal they charge $55 for the "processing" of the medical. Just goes to show you how bloated and wasteful our (hell, ANY) government is.

How about the 200 bucks to write the ATPLs. It's all on computer so where does that money go? The effort to usher you into the room? Then it's another 100 bucks to have some desk jockey add up your times and stamp your license.

I know an older pilot, it costs him $2500/year to pay for the tests that are required to keep his medical.

Ever counted the number of employees on the payroll of your Regional TCCA?

Then count the number of working pilots in your Region.

Got an older Doc to do my Medical in Mt.Hope. Only works on Tues or Wed mornings...can't remember which. Audiogram is included and I have a hook-up for the ECG. Toatal cost = $100.oo

Then theres TC = $55.oo ....for what ? TC charges almost 50% of what the Doc does for a bit of paperwork....Wheres my A.I.P !? If they don't publish them anymore I would expect ATLEAST a min of a 50-70% reduction in the fee.

My last medical cost me $60 plus $20 for the ECG.

$80 for my entire medical and $55 to process it. TC is worse than the banks...a 69% service charge!

The $55 is stupid to say the least. I just make sure I get a new one each time now because DAMN IT! it's my right as a taxpayer and a flying monkey.

Just another case of your government inaction.

As for the doc fees, I've got a good one and am willing to pay more then he charges as long as he never finds out.

I never got my balls held during a medical, and never paid over $100, I wonder if there is any corrolation.
