Glassy water

Post by Boss Hawg »

Has anybody ever seen or heard of a duck botching a glassy water landing?

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no

After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

I've actually seen it on several occasions. It's pretty funny. In they come, low and slow...then, they roll it up in a ball!
On the same subject (sort of) Disney put out a film many years ago of albatrosses landing on Guam, after several months at sea. He put it to music. What a HOOT!
I've also seen seagulls do snap rolls while trying to fly through a stall to take french fries from a guy's hand.
Watched some ducks try to take off from a calm lake near Mexico City. They couldn't get airborne. Density altitude, don't ya know.
The birds really don't know any more than we do. BUT, they always leave the stumps into the wind.

Yep, and if you want to know the wind direction, just look where the seagulls are pointed when they're hanging around. They always point into the wind so they can get away from ground predators faster.

Squirrels will always hide behind the tree to keep safe.

It also takes 14 cuts to succesfully make the 6-pack plastic with no holes in it so the birds don't get their heads stuck.

I didn't even have to hit Wikipedia for this info!

Cows will always stand with their asses to the wind. This causes the wind to fill their "moo box" allowing them to MOOOO. If they couldn't get air up their asses, they couldn't Moo.

I saw the same video a while back... and it is hilarious.

On the subjects of ducks ... i saw 2 ducks land on a telephone wire last summer... now that is somthing to see. First one missed and went into the trees but managed to pull up and go around the second stuck the landing on the wire. Problems arose when duck #1 came around an decided the best place to land was on his buddies back and then they both went into the trees ... They never tried it again to my knowledge. But the fact that one stuck it was pretty amazing.

I have also seen lots of other water fowl screw up the glassy water landings. It makes me feel better when I dont do it perfectly.

You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

Somebody once told me that they were reincarnated pilots!

About a day later I watched a gull tuck a wing and spin through about 4 rotations before untucking and making a nice gentle landing on the deck.. The he started making quite the racket..

Just like a pilot.. couldn't keep his mouth shut

I watched a seagull misjudge the height of a wave during a "landing approach" and take a header in. Pretty funny.
