Looking for side work in YYC

Post by blewhead »

Anyone have any ideas of a side job or where to look in YYC? Just looking for something to do during the summer and earn some extra coin.

If you have to ask, you have not looked too closely at the YYC job market. Lots and lots and lots of jobs going begging but to afford them , you need to be already living in YYC (the rental situation is desperate).

I am living in YYC and I have a place to stay and a job already flying a King Air. I am just looking for some extra money since I make very little where I am now.

well if piltos would stop working for these crapy companies that don't pay enough, maybe you wouldn't have to look for another job to make extra cash.

I'd say the majority of the pilots in Calgary either have a second job or are looking for one...the cost of housing is outta control here.

sounds like you work for borek, they are not a crappy company, just their pay, even those across the way pay more, if borek would pay a little extra for the kind of work, they wouldn't be loosing soo many ppl.. just thought...

Try the courier companies such as Fed Ex and Purolator, they are always looking and they have flexible hrs too.

Who ever this person is, they dont have the BRAINS to find a job on their own in Calgary, but somehow our chickenshit "industry" has allowed them to possibly command an aircraft......sad, sad, sad...

What happend to the pre-req of intelligence to become a pilot?

Getting a second job isn't as easy as you might think. "...let's see here, you might come in to work if you don't fly, you might have to leave midway though a shift if you get called in to fly, and if you end up flying all night you're going to be useless to me all day long..." Great no thanks!

I found one but it's piece work, and they know me pretty well. Still I feel bad when I can't show up, or have to leave early.

i work for an arborist on the side here in ywg. everything from pruning fruit trees to monster removals and lots in between. it's great exercise, extra money and something completely different from flying. i think of it as my workout, as well as my fall back plan in case i ever medical out. there's a bit of science, a lot of brute force and a few beers after most days.

the boss doesn't care if i can't make it in (rarely) and i'm going to be a certified arborist soon, too. bottom line is: i get a lot out of it.

but don't take my word for it..........

Look you jackass, I am just getting some helpful information from other pilots who may have a side job, isn't that what this forum is for?? They know what the industry is like and the cost of living in Calgary, and how do you even know that I haven't gone out there and looked for a job, not a flying job, I have one of those. These folks have been very helpful, unlike you.

I recommend get a part-time job with one of the smaller builders, they might be flexible enough to let you go when you need to go to fly. I know 2 guys, but you'd need your own set of wheels to get to the job sites, and they pay more than any 'starting out' aviation job ever will.

PM me if you're interested, then I'll phone them and see if they're looking for guys(which, in YYC, they probably are)
