Beaver in the trees

Found this one too. An amazing video of a DHC-2 forced into the trees (nobody was seriously hurt).

The NTSB report for this crash is on their website:
summary: http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?ev_i ... 0047&key=1
report (pdf): http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/GenPDF.asp?id= ... 001&rpt=fa

Sounds like the pilot simply misjudged his aircraft's ability to climb while doing extremely low level work. On the other hand, the video does provide pretty good (and dramatic & memorable) evidence that crashing slowly into the trees with the wings level actually gives you decent odds of survival when you have to make a forced landing.

If you listen to the engine, he goes into the trees at cruise power... I would think that if he was looking out the FRONT window and realized he wasn't gonna make it over the trees, he might have reached over and added some power... just a thought.
