the answer is 'Yes'

There is a port in yyz and yhz, which would cut down on commuting.

Yes you can. People live as far away as YYT/YDF and make it work.

I live in YHZ. The commute is hard, but you get used to it.

Some people at WJ simply don't like the commuters, but most do.

Most crew schedulers like having people all over the country, and I have been called at home in HZ to fly out of YHZ with short notice to get a flight out on time twice in the last 4 or 5 months. I don't know if that gets noticed by the people that call the shots.

Great company to work for, great bunch of skippers, F/O's , F/A's , maint, crew skeders , agents etc....

no regrets
good luck

2 captains and a bunch of FA's out of regina, and the saskatoon port is in it's first month. Short on FO's there, and currently only 2 captains signed up. There is good potential there, so all you Rider fans need to sign up, we need FO's!

Does WJ take that into account. A person living in a city where they could use a few more ppl based out of that particular city would possibly get hired over a person that would say be more experienced living in a different city.

That's the first I've heard of this, and I find it hard to believe.

Why stop at NAS? Commute from anywhere with a palm tree that AC serves and use your jumpseat privileges.

Jump seat is a dangerous game. Just need one crust master and you're not gonna show up for work.

Less dangerous and less likely than trying to commute on a heavy route and getting bumped.

I'm curious, why does AC allow WestJetters to jumpseat?

WJ/AC/AC Jazz all have reciprocal jumpseat agreements with each other. The commuting pilot still has to sit in the back of the aircraft with the SLF, and only if there's a seat available of course.
