Yep, probably a fancy little flip phone of death duct taped to your head with no off button. But I'm sure the company at least foots the bill for the phone...Nightshiftzombie wrote:Call me a cynic, but there has got to be a catch.

Maybe it is just a sign of things to come. There is a shortage of experience out there. Young people have options that pay better with less responsibility and less training. In Alberta you can get a job driving a truck for $100,000.00 a year so that doesn’t look like such a great deal. Unless you’ve been in this industry for a while being so use to wages they way they are, then it looks like gold!
Of course it's a sign. I can count on my fingers the number of people my age that are still wrenching on airplanes other than at the majors.
BCIT (I hear) used to have around 1000 students at any one time. Now (I hear) they have around 350. My apprentices have been approached to get their friends to sign up. What happened to the 2+ year waiting list of years gone by? Too many good paying jobs outside of aviation..

The booming economy! A friend of mine has a son graduated high school this June. The kid now works at a Suncor drill site about 2 hours north of Fort McMurray, "safety spotter" for a backhoe operator. So, he's 18 years old, no experience, now making $22 per hour, with lots of overtime available. No wonder so few young people want to get into Aircraft Maintenance!

Why does everyone just look at the dollar value of everything? I made killer coin working in the patch for alot of years but I'm happy as hell to get out of it and take a substantial pay cut to do what I do now. Money isn't everything. look at quality of life and general happiness too.
Hmmmm...im in the Edmonton area, i think they are a start up company, looking for more of a PRM, DOM for that money, says ony 1 engineer needed.
I remember Don from years ago, struck me as an direct fellow, no too much BS.
By looking on thier website, seems to only have 2 management people, which is why im wondering if it isnt a PRM position too. 1 person looking after those aircraft, your gonna be busy! Come to think of it, theres no way 1 person can maintain that fleet.
Someone give them a call, and let us know the results.

Fixing airplanes is a job, a job to be done professionaly, but a job none the less and happiness isn't sitting around a hangar drinking coffee and bs'ing about airplanes. It's what you have left over after you've paid all your bills that allows you to have some kind of fun(happiness) and have a decent lifestyle.
If you can have a better ratio doing something else, particularly if its less demanding, why would you not? I know there's types out there that just dont know any better because they've been stuck in the rut for so long, but obviously there's more that think along the lines as me, and were/are just waiting for the right time to bail. THAT makes me happy.
I shed no tears for the industry/schools about this, and I hope it continues for a long time yet.
It's well deserved and overdue.

The advertised position is for the DOM position. The responsibilities would include setting up and running an Approved AMO as well as all the other associated responsibilities of the position.
At this juncture, this company out-sources all its maintenance. One assumes that they have concluded that it might be a tad less expensive to assume responsibility for their own maintenance.
90K is a bit low, considering all the time, work and effort required to appease TCCA. Not to mention attending to the running maintenance, procuring any specialized tooling/equipment and personnel to effectively run an effective maintenance department!
Depending upon the machines utilization, it appears that there would be a requirement for at least 4 full-time engineers on staff, wxcluding the DOM!
