The stats are bullshit. If you actually scramble the letters in a random way then often a word is totally unintelligible. And Cambridge was not involved in any way.

Anyone who thinks that the only reason to spell properly is to be understandable is missing the point. English is not a phonetic language, so spelling does not affect comprehension.

The only reason to watch your spelling is not to looking like an idiot.
