Custom Earplugs

Post by angry inch »

Looking for info on custom (molded) earplugs. Can anyone recommend a particular brand/type? Are they better than the good 'ol deci-damps??
thanks.

Depending on where you are on the wet coast, I would recommend checking out Richmond Hearing Consultants. I got a couple pair of customs from there, they do wonders. You don't even know they're in except you can't hear anything. Perfect in a noisy plane like the 99 or the metro, put 'em in under your headset and you're golden.

Can I ask how much they were? Any sort of tax deduction?

Thanks

I had some of them at a shop I worked at. I forget the brand, but I found the custom fitted ear plugs were more comfortable over an 8-10 hour shift than the cheapo disposables. Ours cost $100, but the company paid for half.

I'm a fan of custom fitted ear plugs.

I believe they were in the $100-150 range, but the price is worth the savings in the long run, I've had the same pair for just over a year now, can't say enough good about them

Custom Protect Ear in Surrey, BC.
http://www.protectear.com

I've been swinging a hammer and doing landscaping for my dad since I was in highschool and then winters after float season was over, and have always used these guys. I think it was about $100 for a fitting then they keep the mold for 5 years or so and additional sets can be ordered and are cheaper. (After 5 years they re-cast your ears because they change.)

The neat thing about these plugs is they have a tiny canal running through the plug to your ear and you can choose the type of filter that goes in it (which is changeable) depending on the level of noise you want in, and I believe it blocks damaging noise but allows sounds like voices through. And for flying I'd think that canal would equalize the pressure.
I never wore them for flying but I probably should have!
