Kenn Borek Info
I see they are looking for AME,s Any one have info on the wages, what kind of rotation are they on up north , do they fly you from you domicle if you are on rotation. What kind of acomindations do they have for you to live in up the north.Good Company ? etc etc
Re: Kenn Borek Info
I think that your first few rotations will be in the Maldives, about three months out and one month off, and about 6000 a month for pay, and I hear that you also get a tax credit because you are not technically working in Canada. Tough, stressfull work but really good experiance and OK pay. I think that the pay is better once you have experiance there and start doing the Antartic tours. Ofcourse this is all of what I have heard form others that have worked there, this Info is not from personal experiance. I hope this helps out!! that is what this site is for! Good luck

bronco is the closest.
Molly does get inexperienced AMEs. I did my first tour there as an AME in 2000.
Molly at the end of my time at Borek(almost 5 yrs) was still more money than Antarctica. Antarctica did not get more experienced either. Lots of first timers I witnessed go down there. They would hire directly for that contract when they could not get YYC guys to go.
Money in Male was better than first time South pole guys. Maybe the numerous southern guys got more.
Borek is a great experience for an AME to learn from. Lots of stuff going at the bases.
Since their engines are on-condition you learn the PT6 very well. They have failures most TBO guys never see. Unless you work for a company with really high TBO's.
I think though it is more for a single guy. Married life would struggle working for them.
I like going home for lunch and playing with the kids....so I guess my days of working for Borek are not going to happen again soon.

Re: Kenn Borek Info
I've also wondered a bit about working at Kenn Borek. I applyed there several years ago as an apprentice, but didn't get in...times were a bit different for an apprentice. Anyways I was wondering if they allow the option of just moving to the Maldives and working there full time, not on a rotation. I've never been there so I don't know anything about it, can someone shed some light on what it would be like to live there?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Kenn Borek Info
It's been 4 yrs since I was last there(male) but in all honesty that place would get pretty stale after 3-4 months. I did 10 week rotations and was very glad to get off the island at that time.
See the thing is for maintenance guys it really isn't paradise. It's hard fawking work. Yes you learn tonnes, but it's stressful and demanding. And you hardly get to resorts and enjoy the picturesque corral. I did go to resorts, but like 5-6 times in 4 yrs.
The main island(male) where you live is the most densely populated area on the planet. 100,000 people now live there on 2 sq KMs. So you get sick of people around you 24/7
But mainly the difficult part to get a grips on is the stress. You will work on planes that require your decisions for safety. Lots of knarly corrosion.
In my four years of rotations I feel I advanced my knowledge 10 yrs.
So in reference about living there....maybe...but I would not do it. The place and work is fine but really stacks up on ya in a few months. I witnessed many bitter people there.
