It looks like it's almost done. They had a big party there on New Years (I was at Green Olive). On the website it sounds like they are looking for a second round of investors. I sent an e-mail off this morning, I'll post the answer when I get it.

It's a bar / grill being started up by a bunch of WestJet pilots in Calgary. It features a deck on the second floor which is pretty close to the 10 - 28 runway path, so you can watch the planes go by while you eat. From the outside the place looks pretty nice, but they've been working on it for quite some time now. Perhaps a year?

Hmm, they'll need something pretty spectacular to outdo 'The Beav.'

Nonetheless, I wish them success.

So the high cost of living in Calgary has finally driven pilots to moonlighting :partyman:

Good luck and let the music begin!!

That is a great idea for a bar. Too bad our crew hotel is way the other side of town. Oh well probably have to check it out anyway.

Went there on day of opening. Fairly impressive and lots of big screens around the place.
A little dissapointed in not having the view of YYC as advertised though although this could be a summer thing on the deck I suppose. They do a flightdeck ale or lager for just 4 bucks.

lots of big screens around the place.
Now there's a guy who's got his priorities straight ... it's all about the TV, no word on the servers who might just block the view...

You misunderstood- I meant big screens on their servers, must have been the ale.

Went there with some buddies the other night. Really nice place.. but something struck me as odd once I was inside. Being owned by pilots and it being called "The Flight Deck" one would expect some sort of "aviation" theme once you were inside. NOPE. Not a plane, sign, poster, or anything to do with aviation anywhere to be found! Not even a fan with propeller shaped blades! Lots and lots and lots of flat pannel tvs to watch the game too the point of sensory overload though. The place just looks like a new Brewster's to me.

Staff was friendly and helpfull and being it had just opened.. everyone was running around with a smile on. Food was ok, didn't get to sample much of the menu. Beer prices were just like if you were on a flight somewhere. Mind you never did try the house lager. Some of the menu items were well named, "YUL smoked sandwich" for eg. I think there was only one waitress walking around in something less than three inch heels! Wow.

Over all, I can see this place being more of a sports bar than a Pilot / Flight crew hang out. I have to stress the place doesn't feel like it has anything to do with Aviation at all. Not sure if that was the owner's intent or not, but since the next best place in town for that is JETZ accross from the museum, I would say it was a step up.

Cheers!

Was there last night with a couple of the dorks that frequent this board.. We would have had a great time had the chef not had a supposed heart attack. It's not a wednesday without wings.

Pretty girls, nice atmosphere and good seats. What more could you ask for? As for it being called the flight deck.. Have a look at the MASSIVE deck that looks at the arr/dep path outside

Went there last Wednesday. The place looks more like an Earls than a pilot bar but, I think the in the summer it'll be better with the patio open and the great view of rwy 10/28. I hope the chef is better after he was taken to hospital with a stroke.

I'll ask what all airport personnel want to know. Since aviation people finance it. Do they have discounts for industry people?

I'm not trying to be cheap, just thrifty.

The food there is absolutely disgusting. One reason why pilots shouldn't run restaurants. Total dissapointment. :(
