Jazz loses engine cowling YHZ
Last evening, shortly past 1900 (local) a Jazz RJ returned to the YHZ airport after losing an engine cowling during the takeoff roll.
The ground crews pulled a couple of pieces of aluminum off the runway and it was business as usual.
Anyone have any further info on this?
Cheers

That happens a lot. Saw one land in YYC not to long ago with one missing as well. No big deal though.

"That happens a lot..." right, the countryside is littered with junk falling off Jazz a/c... Actually, I believe it.
"What's it doing now?"
"Fly low and slow and throttle back in the turns."

Re: Jazz loses engine cowling YHZ
It wasn't the whole cowling, just the horse collar at the front. Not good, but not as bad as originally posted.
Do not judge until you know the full story...
Re: Jazz loses engine cowling YHZ
There's a service bulletin to get the grommets and camloks changed on the upper and lower halves of the cowlings. Whenever they go in for heavy checks, the parts get replaced. I don't know if that's what caused the cowling to come off this time, but I'm pretty sure that's why there's a service bulletin out for it.
Also, the CRJ isn't designed for the job it's doing. It's a stretch business jet. Even though they're older and not as shiny and pretty as the RJ, I'd trust a "trash 8" over an RJ anyday.
