Give it up Rich. They are a federal employer. They are obliged to post that paragraph.

You can't wave a magic wand over anybody so that they have the magic hour combination. Harder still to take a pilot and remove the desire to fly from them. Fifty hours a year won't really do it for most professional pilots.

How many visible minority, disabled, aboriginal, female pilots have you met?

Yeah it is a canned paragragh. Yadda yadda yadda. It's great to see the hiring practices from the fifties just doesn't cut it in a government job. Too bad there are still a few of those neanderthals dragging their knuckles there.

The only one who would like to work there....does not actually want to work. Worships CUPE....and likes to take it up the @$$!

To be fair to everyone they should have worded the paragraph as follows:

Transport Canada is committed to achieving a skilled and diversified workforce that reflects the diversity of the Canadian population and the equitable representation of Persons with disabilities, Women, Men, Aboriginals, Caucasians and Visible Minorities.

The Public Service of Canada is committed to building a skilled, diverse workforce reflective of Canadian society. As a result, it promotes employment equity and encourages all candidates to apply. There is no need to indicate on the application your sex, religion, ethnic backgroung, color or age as they will not be considered during the application process.

Thats because what you wrote is correct and the 'true' equitable position.

A favorite saying of mine is "Those who can do, Those who can't work at T.C. " I can already imagine the backlash that will cause me. 8) (Glasses on to protect my identity)

There are two types of pilots. Those who have and those who will. Let's be careful out there.

As far as giving the job to those that are best qualified goes...

A lot of TC postings go vacant for a long time.
  • Looking for a 10000 hour driver
  • With CASO/training/checking experience
  • Computer literacy and report writing skills a must
  • should have a burning desire to fly 50 hours a year
  • To be balanced out by spending 500 hours a year in meetings, 2 hours a day reviewing CARs
  • Will provide 12 weeks a year on courses with no practical benefit, in places like estevan saskatchewan in winter.
  • Main job only to go out to companies (four days out of the month) with a clipboard and a big red pen to say "You're doing that wrong"
  • Balance of year duties: emulate role of the guy on the capitol one card ad. Saying "No" on the phone. Repeat as necessary
The upshot is that you'd take a small cut in pay, and be bored stiff, in exchange for a pension. After moving to a more expensive city.

Oh yeah, sign me up.
