MU2 AT -40
Its -40 somethin with the wind here in YQT and i get a call for all 6 tanks of fuel on an MU2......gee i love my job sometimes!
Re: MU2 AT -40
Who could have possibly predicted that airplanes want gas even in winter? The nerve of them, asking a fueller for fuel...
Just messin' with ya, dress warm!

All their pretty Zero's are on the bottom of the Pacific. They had to get even some how.

Re: MU2 AT -40
Fueling a plane is not bad...however fueling an Mu-2 is like a bad joke so add in -40 degree temps and you have my utmost sympathy.Sulako wrote:Who could have possibly predicted that airplanes want gas even in winter? The nerve of them, asking a fueller for fuel...

It's a good things those fukrz are so bloody loud when they taxi. It gives you a heads up to hide in the back of the FBO hangar and let someone else fuel it.
Re: MU2 AT -40
i dont care how shitty my day was as an ame i will never miss fueling. not for one second
Re: MU2 AT -40
Do those p.o.s. garretts even work at that temp? Sounds like Pratt country to me.
Re: MU2 AT -40
The MU-2 is good to -54 on the ground, if I remember correctly.
I think it was a limitation of the jet A fuel, not the airplane.

Re: MU2 AT -40
Something about Jet-A turning to jello at -40C and Jet-A1 at -47C. I'm guessing northern operations are mainly done on Jet-B?

I'd take a couple Garretts over a Pratt any day. Love those things.

My favorite small twin was the Turbo commander 690B and it had Garretts, great little engine.
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Re: MU2 AT -40
Just fill one tip tank all the way untill the thing tips over. You'll have the rest of the day off guaranteed.

Re: MU2 AT -40
Will the Garrett run on Artic Diesel? We ran the Pratt and Warners for many hrs on it.

So have any of you Pratt lovers ever flown Garrets on anything other than a Metro, or at ALL??? They're great engine for flyability, it's like driving a piston, you want power now, you get it now. Besides, who the hell doesn't like making a shitload of noise??? The 727 is still the sexist airplane in the sky....
I think this Garret hating stance is some sort of fad, or "in thing" to do, passed down the line to people who are happy to carry it forward with no personal experience with them. Yes, in OLD days long before most of us ever considered flying, Garrets had some issues, but they've been sorted and are a super little unit. The Metro installation is not great, so I see the point of the folks driving that thing, but it's not like that across the board.
Having flown both in a number of different machines, I personally prefer the Garret. Yes the Pratt is a very good stove, but it's not perfect.
Just my take.
