A 7 pin S cable plug on the laptop should make things easy. Bought a cable for a projector and was told that it would work 1000%. Not so much. Bought an S cable and audio cable. Great sound but no picture. Sad thing is my mobile comes with a cable that connects to the tv and works like a charm... How do I get a laptop to show whatever is on the screen on the tv?

Most laptops have a mode button somewhere which switches between internal screen, projector, and both. Look for a key that shows two rectangles stacked on top of each other. On the Lenovo/IBM laptops it is usually a blue label meaning you need to press the fn key at the same time.

Fn and F8. Only affects things with the "projector" cord plugged in. Still no picture though.
I saw a 7 pin S cable on ebay with the red, white and yellow plugs on the other end. Is that the solution?

If you can use the RGB VGA cable, it will give you much better picture. The S-Video cable will only give you NTSC standard res which is 648x486 as opposed to a standard projector which is 1024x768 and goes up from there, most projectors have VGA, as do flat screen HD-TVs. Now if it is an old TV and you really do need to use an S-Video somewhere in your advanced settings of your video drivers there will be a way to activate it but this differs from machine to machine depending on the card make, drivers, weather the manufacturer has got there own skin on the drivers etc, etc, etc.

Right click on the desktop -> properties click on the settings tab... you may have to enable the "second monitor"
