Wants to interview someone who's 38 or older...

Post by nemesest »

Hey guys

I'm doing an english project on 1984 by George Orwell. And this is interview is based on your experiences when you were 18 as opposed to now (need to be 38 or older). Sorry! this is not directly related to aviation but I wanted to interview someone who's in aviation.

Thank you!!
Please describe your age, occupation and anything else you would like to say. Also, please answer the questions as you would have when you were 18

1. How did technology differ from today? Did the lack of technology in the past allow you to have more privacy?

2. Do you now have more freedom now or less? Has this change been for the better or for worse? (i.e. more surveillance in the streets equate less crimes)

3. How does the social norms of the past compare to the present?

4. What were your social, cultural and moral values in the past? Did it match the social norms? Did the change in society’s values (if it did) through time also change yours?

5. Has Canada become more patriotic or less? What do you believe the causes to be?

6. What do you think of the media and advertisements of today compared to the past? Have they crossed the line in trying to publicize their shows and products?

7. How was the education in the past? How does it compare to now?

8. With that said, do you believe people are more “equipped” to deal with this inflow of information from the media that may be false? Can people think for themselves better now than in the past?

9. How was the tolerance for people of different sex, race, age, orientation in the past? Is it better now or worse?

10. How was the economy in the past? How were the costs of living in the past?

11. Is the use of language any different from the past? What do you think of new words created in Canada? Are they necessary or unnecessary? Good or bad?

12. How were the politics in the past?

13. How was Canada’s role in international affairs and peacekeeping in the past?

14. What did you enjoy to do for fun when you were younger? Do you still do these things?

15. Did you have any fears in the past? Have you now overcome these fears?

16. How was the family life in the past? Has the increase in Canada’s materialistic values (video games, money, etc) been a cause of decline in family values?

17. Overall, were things better than they are now, or were things worse?

Well I'll tell you one big difference. The boys get more action for way less work now. I have had a pretty much endless series of high school guys working for me over the years, and they all get way to much action for way to little work. The little bastards. No dating. Just "hook ups" "Friends with benefits". Now there's a concept. As for the rest of the interview....augh. It makes me feel old. I was a senior? in high school when pocket calculators came out. Remember the glowing orange lights? Only the super geeks had them. Hewlett Packard, every one. Reverse polish format.

Christ I don't know what it is either...but I bet Hedley could explain it. My Dad is a retired physics prof, and my brother is a mechanical engineer. They both had HP calculators where you had to input the data in some wierd way that made sense to no one but a math major or an engineer. THEY all called it reverse polish. I neither undertand the format nor the joke of the name, but I've seen it.

The 3 most important things to remember when you're old:

1) Never pass an opportunity to use a washroom
2) Never waste a hard on
3) Never trust a fart
