New Licence Issued...Why?
Just got a new licence in the mail. Nothing has changed on it...no reason to issue a new one.
The only difference is that it now say "Language Proficiency - English".
What a waste of time, effort, money, postage, paper...etc.
Tax dollars / user fees hard at work.

Thought we were getting a licence similar to a passport for security purposes.

Then in fact something did change. God forbid they should print you a new licence that states all the information relevant to that licence!?Sprung wrote:Just got a new licence in the mail. Nothing has changed on it...no reason to issue a new one.

Language will therefore be as relevant as your status as to corrective lenses, or any other restrictions, etc.
So yes, they should have printed you a new licence.

Re: New Licence Issued...Why?
That's Transport Canada's way of saying:
"Hey, just wanted to say we were thinking of you, here's a new license, you may not need it, but everyone likes to get mail, unless they're bills, but I guess bills are ok too, I mean everyone's got to make a living even those nice folks that charge so much for PPC's, so yea, here's a fresh license, hope you're bundled up all cozy wherever you are, it sure has been a long harsh winter, but I suppose that's ok, that means you can drink extra hot coco, so enjoy yourself" - Transport Canada
At least that's the letter I got.

Good point changes... now I don't feel so bad about the 110 dollars I owe them for the last 2 years.

Thanks Changes, ......better check the label on that sugar stuff in your cocoa though.

Re: New Licence Issued...Why?
Whats up with the passport style license? Is there a proto-type out that we can see? It is going to have a photo on it correct? When are they planning on getting this to us?

Re: New Licence Issued...Why?
Passport style licenses are a stupid idea anyway. They should make it like a drivers license. MAYBE they are reconsidering their backward thinking?... oh wait.. TRANSPORT... never mind.

See here: http://www.tc.gc.ca/civilaviation/gener ... hanges.htm After reading this TC page it would appear that ATPL and CPL licence holders will have to apply to get the new style licences some time this year, with PPL holders needing to apply sometime next year. If you don't apply then the old style licences become invalid. So in other words TC is putting the onus on us to actively apply for the new style licence, even though they don't have the application form actually produced yet. And I bet it costs extra money to apply (let alone the cost of a Passport Canada-type photo that must form part of the application). Grrrr.Northern Skies wrote:^ not anytime soon i'll bet. Re: New Licence Issued...Why?
So if I don't apply for my new ATPL by March 31/2009 the license I now hold will be invalid.
Three questions:
(1) Does my ATPL change to a PPL until December 31/2009 or do I have no license period?
(2) If I don't apply for the new license what is the fine for not having one...assuming I were to keep on flying?
(3) If I have an accident will my insurance be invalid because I did not get the new fancy license?

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

2.) we who have been "working hard" (&^%$%$#$!!!!! puke) will be sure to further screw up this ridiculous and backward notion
3.) we will never be ashamed to have drawn paychecks for this matter,
please keep forwarding them to the lunatic asylum where we dwell.
4.) "by the end of May", please note that our tradition does not actually include the year of completion of our efforts (screw ups).
5.) we are too retarded to actually wait until your license actually needs updating, we need you to tell us you want one....or else!!!!
6.) our boss told us yesterday that we are furthering the future of aviation. (This is true! The reason is they are too occupied with this to be involved screwing up something else more important.)
7.) we will never divulge the source of inspiration that has prompted this effort.
8.) our "testing" has included just how much paperwork we can stuff into it, compared to a bar code on a plastic card like a driver license.
So far, we have been successful in making it impossible to fit in a normal pocket. Resistance to flushing after illicit use is still being tested.
Apparently, being "full of shit" requires we need an outside contractor to determine this quality in the normal environment. This will run to millions of Quebec dollars, (oops!...it was put out for bid!) delay implementation and increase the cost to "stakeholders".
9.) if you don't like the above, you , the holder, can sit on the pointy end of the stake, or put the license book in the same place.
10.) Thank you for suggestions. We just thought after all the research, that we knew better.
1.) the stupidity has only just commenced...We have been working hard to prepare for the arrival of the new Aviation Document Booklet, which will hold all your licences, permits and medical certificates in one document.
By late April, we will be in the final stages of testing prior to full production of the booklets. By the end of May, the system should be commissioned to operate at full capacity. At that time, the following will occur:"

Addendum #1
New pilot license volume.
item 8.) the license will be treated with flammable retardant so it may not be used to light fires for survival purposes.
Oh, stand by on that, it may be a revenue source.

Re: New Licence Issued...Why?
No Kidding !the stupidity has only just commenced...
TC's "working's"
First let's reprint all the license to add the Language Proficiency.
We'll then re-reprint those who ask for a Second Language
Third, we'll make the two prints above completly useless by bringing in the passport style

Re: New Licence Issued...Why?
How long does it take to process this new licence?
Since a photo is required are all licences issued with an expiration date?

If you are a Muslim female can you send them your picture wearing the full Burka as demanded by your religion?

After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

Re: New Licence Issued...Why?
Well if the length of time it took them to process my FIREARMS LICENSE is any indicator it will take around 4 months to get the new license with picture back in the mail. And that was after 3 phone calls to attempt to find out what the deal was.
I wonder how much this is going to cost . I also wonder how they will pay for it. Hmmmm let me think.

Re: New Licence Issued...Why?
I don't know about you, isn't it nice getting something new once in a while. There's no need to complain. TC decided to send one out. Sign it, put it with your other licenses and move on.Sprung wrote:Just got a new licence in the mail. Nothing has changed on it...no reason to issue a new one.
