insight for ame going to jazz

Post by jamesyap »

Was wondering if anyone had any info. for an AME maybe going to jazz in London. Whats the company like to work for? Whats the pay like? I do have a stable job in the north but would love to make the move south, is Air Canada Jazz a good move or what?

Get a look at their payscale first! I would have taken a 14000yr pay cut.

Its a good place to work if you like heavy maintenance. I worked there just when the "B" pay Scale was introduced but it was the only job out there so I took it. Its a good place to work and not too bad a city. Give it a try. My wife and I are thinking about moving back East that way. Diamond is Looking for AME's too.

I noticed the payscale is a little low. Do you have to start at the bottom level or do they compensate for experience?

No I don't think they start you at the bottom persay they have a scale for time and endorsements and they adjust for that. As far as I could tell though if your name was wright and you had the flyers endorsement and subsequent the best you could hope for is $25.00hr. I believe you'll go up from there but on the regular time scale that you would expect. 2009 is when the renegotiate the contract and as long as old buzz hargrove dosn't sell out the new guys it should get better. I don't work there and I have heard pretty good things about yyc but I'm a whore and I like bigger pay checks, and I hate working nights, so pretty much take what I say with a grain of salt. You'll get courses though...for free!

Jazz is a decent company, and London is not too bad at all( from what friends and co-workers have said so far), it's a heavy base dealing with the CRJ 100/200 and it's mainly day shift work, and a skeleton night shift. and as for the pay scale it's what bombardierfixer said in his earlier post

Make sure you know where the food bank is. You'll need it.

- tellyourkidstogetarealjob is 100% right when he said "make sure where the food bank is" You had better make sure you know where the Salvation Army is also, you'll need clothes. Its not uncommon for guys to work 2 or 3 extra jobs either. The pay is awefull and as an apprentice you can expect $15/hr at best and straight night shifts. No matter how hard or how little you work you'll never get a crew chief position, vacation during summer, overtime, respect, courses or training cause they are all strictly seniority based. However, if you do decide to go there, from what my friends say, you will get hired as long as you have approved college training.

i was in YYC 5 years ago, got the axe with the bancruptcy protection, had no complaints about the work environment or the people - was a good experience overall
