Oakley Juliets
Anyone used these? I'm in the market for some quality sunglasses, but I dont want to spend a lot of money without some opinions. How much affect do they have on the seal with my headset? Using a DC H10-13.

Whisker's work very well with headsets. I've had a pair for about a year now and no complaints yet.

Re: Oakley Juliets
I have had two nice pairs of Sunglasses in my life. A pair of Oakley E-Wires and Serengeti. Both of great optics, but I would buy another pair of Serengetis for two reasons. 1. The glass optics tend to scratch less. 2. The arms work better around a head set. I found that the large rubber nibs on the Oaklyes tended to not seal as well.
Cheers,

Re: Oakley Juliets
That would be ideal, but it looks like I am going to end up buying off the net. I hate to buy a pair that I havent tried on, and I'm not completely sold on the idea of paying more than 20 bucks. I'm too far from anywhere to actually get a chance to try some on, which is why I was leaning towards the Juliets, they sound like they will fit just about any face shape.Doc wrote:Whatever you buy....take your headset with you.
200 hr, any specific model of Serengetis? I havent looked in to them at all, but will tomorrow.

Re: Oakley Juliets
I absolutely loved my Titanium armed Serengetti's. There can't be a more comfortable pair underneith a headset. Sadly mine were stolen (Probably lost, but I prefer to say stolen). They are a little more then $200, but Maui Jim also makes something very similar with a plastic frame for $200 as well. If you are looking for something underneath a headset, you can't beat it.
Here is the Maui Jim ones (Plastic looks kind of cheesey)

Re: Oakley Juliets
I've been using a pair of Oakley Whiskers for about two years now. Love them!! The way that the frames curve inward by the temple is perfect for my headset.
I found the Juliettes to be too small looking when I tried them on. In that price range, I wouldn't buy without trying first.

Re: Oakley Juliets
redneck...here's what I did. I visited a sunglass hut, at a mall. Tried on several pairs, made a note of model I wanted, then bought that make and model on ebay for 60$. Serengeti Coups. They fit me. I wear glasses, but I find with the optical quality of the Serengeti glasses, I can go totally without my Rx glasses in bright sunlight! BTW, do NOT buy polarized lenses. My next pair will be large aviators by Serengeti. They work under my DC headset as well, and give a little extra coverage.
Re: Oakley Juliets
I have had a pair of Serengeti Drivers for years now, and I love them. Built tough with a light, scratch-resistant lens ( i have dropped them onto a concrete ramp more than a few times and they don't break or chip).
They also really help me to see a lot better in low-vis conditions - in fog or cloud or mist I swear I can see a lot more definition with them than with any other lens. The lenses are photochromatic, which means they get dark when it's really bright outside. They also make the world appear to be a pleasing shade of salmon but somehow don't distort actual colors, other than making red jump out of the spectrum a little more than normal.
Totally worth the money, I would eat Kraft dinner for a few weeks to save up for another pair if I toasted the ones I currently have.

Re: Oakley Juliets
Had these for a good 4 years before I had someone break my heart and sit on them.

Mine weren't polarized, and they come in different colours. They seem to suite most people, and as far as the wire arms go, best fit under the headset or if you put them above the ear seals.
Probably $200+.

Get these, redneck_pilot 86.

Maverick agrees with me.

Who cares if they work with the headset? As long as they work for the ladies at the bar. OOOOOH YEAH! (don't forget to tell all the girls you're a pilot- works every time!)

Re: Oakley Juliets

Whoa!
Unfortunate that MJ's are all polarized. I wonder what glasses their Lear 60 pilots wear?

Re: Oakley Juliets
I have a pair of Juliets that I have worn on numerous occasions with a DC H10-13 and had no comfort problems, but I am an AME and don't normally spend long hours in a cockpit, the longest I have worn them with the headset is about 2 hours. I do know a pilot that wears them flying, and he has never complained. They are nice frames with flexible joints and they come with different sized interchageable nose pieces and rubber shim-like things for the arms (hard to explain, but they truely are designed to fit nearly any head shape).

Re: Oakley Juliets
That right there is the reason I like them...whatever I buy I am going to be forced to buy them without being able to try them on, as I am in the north and not getting out till June, and I dont want to wait that long to get a pair. If anyone knows of any other types of quality glasses that have a feature similar to this, please let me know. I'm sick of the el cheapo glasses that always break. At least these have a warranty.KISS_MY_TCAS wrote:They are nice frames with flexible joints and they come with different sized interchageable nose pieces and rubber shim-like things for the arms (hard to explain, but they truely are designed to fit nearly any head shape).

Re: Oakley Juliets
I love my pair, have had them for about a year and a half now and have no complaints using them with my Bose headset. They work great for float flying too if you put the bigger arm gaskets in to make the arms extend a lesser distance, you don't lose them in the water that way! They would sink to the bottom before you knew it.

Re: Oakley Juliets
Seems like the making of a sunglasses thread, so I'll chime in.
Been using a David Clark X11 for about a year and a half now. The X11 really doesn't get along all that well with Oakley Whiskers. The rubber bit on the arm is a bit to big, I guess, to properly seal. As a result I was kind of dissappointed with the X11s (during daylight.. very satisfied with it's performance at night), until I bought a pair of Ray Ban RB3269s. The arms are slightly slimmer, and it makes a huge difference.

Re: Oakley Juliets
Well the tired and true works best for moi rayban aviators with the cables that go around the ears works well with just about any head set . the bonus is to that around the water, they are less likely to end up at the bottom of the lake.
Of course the fashion quotient is not as high with these as they used to be in the 'old days 80' s etc .But the high fashion spec that are uncomfortable on the head after 10 min with the head set can be used to seen and be seen after work. the aviators the working crowd will know what they are supposed to be for . g15 lenses a and b uv protection and glass no plastic . at the low to mid flight levels I find thy are very good in helping to pick out the traffic though the haze

Float guys lose water surface (ie see through) ;digital displays look dim or blank and laminated wind screens can look blotchy...

Re: Oakley Juliets
Ive used Oakley Half Jackets which don't fit all that well under the headset. A bit too much pressure on the temple, and cruise rpm seems a lot louder.
My Oakley Crosshairs fit way better. No complaints yet, other than the price. What was I thinking?
