How much do you pay for your "av medical"? ($80 or $120?)
Last year when I did my Cat 1 medical (Renew) in Ontario, I paid $ 80.
But, this year I paid $ 120 (I am now in Vancouver).
I still do not know why I had to pay $ 40 more? (for the same Cat 1 Renewal)
How much do you pay for your aviation medical each year? (Cat 1 guys)

I got a Cat1 in Feb 07 and paid 125 for it. Then about 40 for the hearing test. The ECG was covered.
Then TC sent me a 55 dollar admin fee for a single sheet of 8.5x11 paper. Whores...

Medical ... $0
TC Fee ... $0
Flame away at Jazz, but nice not to have to pay these every year!

$100 but you should check around as there is no set fee. Each doctor sets his own rate so you can have quite a variance in one city.
And the $55 fee really galls me - and the rest of the old guys here who have to pay it each 6 months. Certainly not much value for that money.

Just (today) paid $110 + $20 for an ECG, and then TCs thievery of $55 for the second time this year. All reimbursed by my company, though..

Used to pay $40, then got a job at Jazz, so the doc charges me $80 (since I don't have to pay). My wife got charged $20 and the doc was willing to do the medical for free since she was carrying two little kids with her.

Last job my medical cost 215.00 Euros.
My employer paid it.
TC sent me a bill for $55.00 Canadian.
I threw it in the recycling box.

The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

$40
Probably at the same doctor that some of the previous $40 posters.

Re: How much do you pay for your "av medical"? ($80 or $120?)
I went to the $40 doctor in YQT last fall and he charged me $60! I've heard of him doing it for free. He runs a clinic, so I had to wait nearly 3 hours. Next time I'll just go to the $80 doc back home. $20 isn't worth waiting 3 hours (2 spend standing up) in a small waiting area full of sick people.
Re: How much do you pay for your "av medical"? ($80 or $120?)
Oh, and I didn't pay the $55 last time but the darn feds got it in the end at tax time. Oh well, at least I made them work for it.
Re: How much do you pay for your "av medical"? ($80 or $120?)
Called and made an appointmnet with the Doc for next week and they quoted me $150.00 for the Cat 1 medical.

So what is with the $55 fee from TC? Doesn't the government take enough of our money at tax time anyways? $55 for an 8"x11" piece of paper is ridculous.
Re: How much do you pay for your "av medical"? ($80 or $120?)
How about this
$1oo every 6mos.
$55 every 6mos.
$25 for an ecg once a year
and $75 for an eye exam.

Id say they are picking on pilots. As hard as it is for a young guy to get into the field, then they get nailed with all these extra fees that your health care should cover. Why can I get a quadruple bypass under my health care but they wont sign a piece of paper saying Im fit to work/fly?

Re: How much do you pay for your "av medical"? ($80 or $120?)
$60 for the medical
$55 for TC
All covered by Jazz!
Personally I think our provincial health insurance should cover this expense (at least for the basic medical...maybe not the ECG/Audiogram). Your provincial health insurance covers a yearly check up. Most of us don't use this as we have an avaition medical anyway so why not cover the aviation medical as our yearly check up?

Re: How much do you pay for your "av medical"? ($80 or $120?)
there is a doc in vancouver on kingsway near joyce that charges $80. He's in the TC CAME directory. I have paid as much as $150 in Vancouver, with a doc downtown. It varies a lot and is at the descretion of the doctor. Vancouver = higher cost of living, higher rents, etc, so that means higher prices in general.cks1984 wrote:Last year when I did my Cat 1 medical (Renew) in Ontario, I paid $ 80.

Re: How much do you pay for your "av medical"? ($80 or $120?)
Shop around! Contacts in Saskatchewan advise there is a doctor there who does the renewal for $25.00, plus an extra $10.00 for an ECG. If it can be done for that price in SK then it should be possible to do it for the same price in the rest of Canada.
TC still wants you to pay a second time ($55.00) for their processing which you have already paid for through general taxation. That's right, government services are supposed to be paid for by general taxation. You have already paid for it once through your general taxes (Income, GST, etc.)
It seems that the Federal government has appropriated general taxes for its own benefit and it now requires that any services that citizens need (compulsory or optional) should be paid for a second time. Whether it's called a fee, rate, subscription, levy, impost, charge, duty, excise or some other term, it still comes out of the taxpayer's/citizen's pocket and if it is compulsorily imposed by the government then in plain English it is a TAX. If you have already paid once then the attempt to charge again is fraud or obtaining money under false pretences. Of course, the government owns the courts and cops so nothing will be done about such corruption. Imagine what would happen if private enterprise had the same moral standards and operated in the same manner!
