DNA testing is almost as old as this case, what took them so long? Poor guy.

Another good example of how eye witnesses are frequently, if not almost always, wrong. The vast majority of wrongful convictions now being overturned by DNA evidence were based on eye witnesses pointing fingers at the accused. The testimony of a victim or witness to a crime can be very compelling to a jury, and once a jury makes a wrong decision it is a very difficult and complicated legal process to undue. It's not as simple as the crown or state attorney saying we got it wrong, let the guy go. The court's assumption is that the jury who heard the evidence got it right, and to change that a judge must be provided very compelling evidence to the contrary that goes well beyond mere "reasonable doubt."
