Accident near YGQ??
Heard an American talking to centre today. Said he "can't maintain 5000, I'm going down......" Later, we hear guys listening for an ELT near YGQ. Centre had given him a vector to YGQ, of 055 at 40 miles. WX was 500 and 3.....really hope everything worked out.

Re: Accident near YGQ??
I have a hard time figuring out where all these places are with just the identifier.....I know where EHAM is but not where YGQ is.
The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

Sorry, that's Geraldton. Haven't heard a thing....the aircraft was an F8? Whatever that is? Maybe he made it in Okay? Just don't know.
Re: Accident near YGQ??
Just got off the phone with YWG (you know that one...don't ya .) and although details are sketchy, he made it in Okay, and is fine. Good news......back to drinking beer everybody!

Re: Accident near YGQ??
Doc, did you figure out what an F8 is? Maybe some type of homebuilt?
Q: How many Microsoft Programmers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A: It cannot be done. You will need to upgrade your house.

Sequoia F8L Falco. Pilot ditched the aircraft after reporting a rough running engine but got out okay and was picked up chopper.

Apparently he was flying from somewhere in the Western US over to Europe. Good thing he went down where he did!
Swerved.
Swerved.
In a world full of people, only some want to fly. Isn't that crazy?

Cador Information
The American, co-owner-registered, amateur-built Falco F8L aircraft was on an IFR flight from Winnipeg (JARIA) (CYWG) to Goose Bay Airport (CYYR). The aircraft was en-route in level flight at 11,000 feet. At 1727Z, the pilot advised he had a rough-running engine and had to descend. The pilot was cleared to 7,000 feet. At 1730Z, the pilot said he needed to descend further due to a rough-running engine. The pilot was cleared to descend to 5,000 feet. The pilot requested vectors to the nearest airport and was given vectors to Geraldton (Greenstone Regional) Airport, 43 miles northwest. At 1731Z, the aircraft disappeared off of radar at 5,300 feet. The controller was unable to re-establish radio contact. An ELT signal was picked up shortly after and J.R.C.C. Trenton staff dispatched a rescue aircraft. At 2131Z, J.R.C.C. Trenton staff advised that the wreckage was located partially submerged and that the pilot was signalling the rescue crews. The pilot was taken by helicopter to the Geraldton Hospital in stable condition.
