I heard about this at work this morning, stopped an looked at it on my way home. a caravan amphibian hit a pelican. he took off from cyav, not sure how hig, fast and far out he was when it happened. this was a lucky case, bird could have gone through the windsheild and knocked out or killed the pilot, therefore dooming the plane. but he was able to get down on the red river and taxi to selkirk airs base. very lucky, and fortunately fixable.

note : this is not my companies caravan, however, i see it daily, operates out of the same airport as the company i work for.

Birds can do a hell of a lot of damage. I had a loon come through the windshield of a Cessna 310 several (Okay, MANY...there, you happy?)years ago. We were going about 170. Could have been a disaster! Diss assed her? Could have killed her!

I came in to Selkirk water shortly after the Caravan got there... it was a pretty wild sight to see- last two or three feet of leading edge was mangled, buckled and generally bent. Nice work by the pilot getting it down safely- must have been quite an 'interesting' experience.

I don't know how the topic can read "pelican 1, Caravan 0", I'm gonna assume the caravan faired a lil' better.

You guys are aware they call the CL-215 a "Pelican" in Europe?

The reynold wrapper called "Caravan" would be vaporised
if hit by that sort of "Pelican"..
