What about the other shoe?

Post by Motto Pilot »

The United States airline industry tanked and it seems AC Mainline is the first to react here in Canada. First with the fuel surcharges and now shrinking the service 7% for the fall. Some say it is posturing for 2009 contract negotiations. At least the public can't accuse the airlines of price gouging anymore.

How's things at WestJet these days? Still projecting the large growth and hiring lots or has things slowed down there too?

Is Jazz still hiring people as fast as they can train them?

Do companies these days go full-speed in one direction and then reverse direction overnight?

I feel like I am nearing the top of a roller coaster track...

That depends on what you consider large growth. The plan seems to indicate continued growth ... 2 more aircraft this year and no pause in hiring (where it is required, which from what I can tell would be many areas within the company. I think all the pee-lots have been found for the year, but I could be wrong. Still with confirmed orders for a total of 121 aircraft by 2013.

Steady as she goes.

Jazz has frozen hiring until further notice.

Don't be so high strung. Your grandparents survived the depression, you'll survive a little hiring hiccup. Roller coaster rides are fun, the merry-go-round is available, but turn in your pilot's license first.

Talking to a friend of mine who completed the AC interview progress and was deemed suitible says he got an email from the AC recruitment that there will be a hiring freeze untill 2012.

I think WJ will be ok though not as much exposure to the US as AC, with there lower cost structure and loyal customer base they should be able to weather the storm better than AC.

my 2 cents
