DO YOU SUPPORT OUR TROOPS???

Post by habit »

After reading some posts in the "Disrespect in Quebec" post I am surprised to see a definite disrespect towards our fighting men and women overseas from some so called Canadian citizens with such offensive comments as "it is a soldiers job to die" the question is not about support for the war but for our troops having to fight it. Is it just me or are others sickened by some of our fellow Canadians lack of respect for what our soldiers have signed up to do? In my opinion you do not have to support the war to support the troops.

That's a loaded question, and if you understood why, you'd not have asked it in the first place...

The question is simple, and asked to determine if the people showing a lack of respect towards our troops on avcanada is a very small minority, as I hope that is all it really is.

The question should be
Who is supporting the enemy ???Who was sending money to the false charities that are using that money to kill Nato troops ?
The next question would be why are they still being allowed to live amongst us ?

"[...] the point of public relations slogans like "Support Our Troops" is that they don't mean anything [...] that's the whole point of good propaganda. You want to create a slogan that nobody is gonna be against and I suppose everybody will be for, because nobody knows what it means, because it doesn't mean anything. But its crucial value is that it diverts your attention from a question that does mean something, do you support our policy? And that's the one you're not allowed to talk about."

The thing I really love about these debate is that nobody really seems to care what the troops themselves think.

The Canadian public really were ambivalent to the Canadian Forces at that period of history. Our Peacekeeping missions abroad (Cypress, Balkans, Somalia, Haiti, etc) were pretty much ignored by the MSM and the general public. We lost quite a few soldiers overseas due to direct enemy contact, and there was zero coverage of their deaths.

Our support post 9/11 has been a complete 180 degree change from before.

To quote another forum:
Patton (or was it George C. Scott) once said: "No one ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it, by making the other poor goddamned bastard die for his country"!
If you need to support the military that much in your mind, make it valuable and support the death of the other 'poor goddamned bastard' ! :bear:

Been away for a month - well, actually still away, just have internet now - and I see nothing has changed.

I can't imagine anyone wishing ill will on any of our people over there, military, civilian, or diplomatic. However, "supporting the war" is an incredibly difficult and complex question, one that requires a pretty thorough knowledge of Afghanistan, the people there, the politics there, the religions there, the political and commercial interests here, not to mention why the U.S. went there in 2001, why the U.S. put billions into the place in the 80's to fight the Soviets and the effect of that support, Pakistan's influence of events of the past century, particularly the last 30yrs, and why the Brits, Soviets, and Dynasties of old have been going there for millennia to "conquer" the place.

Opinions with little or no knowledge of the subject and based on emotion, propaganda, and politics are not worth much. I personally am about 20 books into this subject and STILL can't vote.... maybe I'm just slow?
