Nobel Prize-winning Russian author Solzhenitsyn dies at 89
One of my fav authors Alexander Solzhenitsyn inspired millions with the knowledge that one person's courage and integrity could, in the end, defeat the totalitarian machinery of an empire.
My fav quote from his books..."You must stop the lie"
It's plain...it's simple and to the point...

This is a boring post but Thanks for clicking anyway!

Not a boring post at all, I'd call it reflective.
Heard the news on the ADF this morning.
A great man that took the long way round to end up back in his homeland, where hopefully he will remain this time.
As far as your signature, huh?
I don't see no homage to Senna in the Hamilton clip.
And you'd insult Ayrton by putting the two on the same pedestal, unless that's not what you're implying.
I miss the black Lotus JPS...

A sad, but inevitable tradgedy: the loss of Alexander Solzhenitzyn.
"One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich" should be required reading for those who wish to exercise the priviledge of voting. It's so short you could read it in a day or two.
Also, "The Gulag Archipelago" and "The Cancer Ward" are long, but worth more of your time than anything written by notorious western intellectuals like, say...Noam Chomsky.

Wow...I fully expected this thread to go right to the bottom without a single contribution. Nice to see there are people on here that share an altered common interest other than the obvious theme of this site.

PS: I too miss that Lotus.

You are 2 for 2 today. You are correct. I never knew you too were a fan of F1 and Senna...it's funny how many of us are out there. Thanks for reading.Big Pratt wrote: As far as your signature, huh?

Get a portable Garmin GPS with XM. Not only do youHeard the news on the ADF this morning
get radar and tafs etc you also get xm satellite radio,
which you can patch into your intercom with a 1/8 inch
patch cord. Or, you can just plug ear buds directly into
it, like an iPod.
You can use it in your car, on your boat ....

I don't recall Cancer Ward being that long, but it was certainly emotionally moving in a more contemporary way as compared to his other works. August 1914 and The First Circle were definitely longer and more difficult to read. I want to say something profound, but it would neither do justice to the man nor the memory of him.Phaedrus wrote:A sad, but inevitable tradgedy: the loss of Alexander Solzhenitzyn.

Goodbye Alexander

Are we there yet?

Got a 496 w/ XM in the bag but the ADF still beats it for traffic reports.Hedley wrote:Get a portable Garmin GPS with XM.
Note to anybody getting XM, do all you can to register it with an american address.
Cheaper & more channels.
BTW, saw you mention Barry's Bay on another thread.
I'll be damned, thought nobody remembered BB Int'l anymore.
