Hi,
I'm looking for any informations about women flying in the bush.
Is there any chance for a low timer woman to succeed to get a job on float and if yes,what is the way to aim this goal.
Any comments will be welcome.

Women have been flying in the bush forever.

There is really no difference between male pilots and female pilots as there are good and bad equally spread between them.

Your gender has nothing to do with being a good pilot...period.

Kitty, sometimes you make me feel there's hope for the male 'RACE'.

Sis, two of my flight instructors were women and both were equals to any male pilot I ever met.

Remember flying is not a contest of physical strength or bravery, it is like driving a car only the controls are easier to move.

It may interest you to know that I found the women IFR controllers generally to be excellent at handling high traffic loads and generally easier to understand than their male counterparts......now don't get all moist and excited by my comments because I am smart enough to know that women and men are very different in many ways.

I don't buy that equality stuff I do however understand we have differences that go beyond our sexual organs and when it comes to flying I am gender blind as far as skills go.....

I dunno...I never listened to guys thing/girls thing when deciding to do anything. Found myself the lone woman in a lot of situations. However since I was not doing it to prove a point or strike a blow for 'Equality' it always went well, and I didn't feel, most of the time, that being female made a difference. Not to say sexism or "sit on my lap baby and you'll pass this checkout no problem!" didn't rear its ugly head. But a foul mouthed b i t c h like me can get past that pretty easily. (Tho in some cases I did not pass that checkout...my soul is worth more than the pay increase).

I know Kenora Air Service in NWO hires quite a few female pilots, two of the best Big A and Lizard worked there. Also Simpson Air in the NWT has one of the best female drives i've seen! Lots of jobs out there!

The only negative comment I have ever come across is that women do not always fit in well in a male dominated bush camp type of scenario where separate sleeping and toilet facilities may be required but in today's more liberal environment, that is just the cost of doing business. Women still have a struggle to get accepted in some environments and there are still some MCP's but if you suck it up and persevere. you will do OK.

Most MEN I know don't fit in well at bush camps.... But you fixed wing guys never spend any real time in camp anyway, so what's the worry???

On a serious note, I know several extremely good female bush pilots, never had a problem once the men got over themselves.

My suggestion is to take this to the Ladies Only forum, just to avoid the inevitable flaming on here.

There are several of us that have flown in the bush for more than a season, check it out.

Edited to add: There is still a lot of "Old Boys Club" out there. However, it's not like the dark ages when women in the bush was a rarity. It's very common now, and for the most part, a non-issue.

I'm just dying to say this, to be the first, perhaps, but I'm wondering how we can get our Ops. manual amended?

(running and ducking and, actually, heading out to work where we have a very competent selection of both genders working at our place).

Over the season, we've had 8 women pilots on our base. Tindi has a bunch. There's still the odd dinosoar outfit around, but they seem to be fewer than in the past. Generally companies that have no women, or have only white males working for them have lots of issues that make them places to be avoided anyway.

All the female skippers I've flown with have been fantastic! I actually prefer them to some of their male counterparts. It's all about personality and skill at the end of the day. Who cares about race/religion/color/gender.

Women in the bush....
If only there were more.
The job doesn't require a set of balls.
The scenery would be a whole lot nicer if there were more women.

My attitude echo's that of others on this thread. I don't give a shit what you have down below.. as long as the work ethic is there and the hands and feet.


Just watch that people don't start to treat you as a non-pilot/ when working gound -Air ensure you don't become a "receptionist" As opposed to a recptionist/ pilot in training.. I've seen this happen..

Others care to give some advice on how to reverse this attitude in an employer? I'm trying to get my wife into bush flying as well.. its been ..well.. a gong show.

I know a female bush pilot who can tip a drum no problem all by her 90 pound self. She's got my respect. As long as you can do the job, who cares? Advil is the secret to success in the bush, not gender..

That shit will destroy your stomach and liver over time. I would say, increase dosage proportional to age until you start pooping blood, then switch to celebrex. Much easier on the soft tissue.
