Remember when?
There were rumours about WJ perhaps buying Zoom. Or about WJ getting 67's?
Let's all say a prayer to the patron saint of bullet-dodgers that Sean Durfy and the BOD made a great decision last year to stay away from the Trans-Atlantic market and the pursuit of bigger airplanes. Maybe when the carnage is complete there will be some opportunities, but for now: All hail the chief!

Jonny;
Just finished crew chat and IF we decide to go with bigger aircraft it will be done "in house" to ensure there are no merger headaches.
Cheers

Re: Remember when?
Roger that Clint23. BTW, had a 1/2 hour visit last month with an TC buddy of ours in YOW. Who knew we had a mutual friend?
Re: Remember when?
Maybe we should be going after a codeshare with the Virgin group. As I see it, Virgin Atlantic could start service to YYZ, Virgin Australia/Virgin Blue could service YVR. Even if they didn't include Canada in there plans, they have many of the same destinations in the states and the Carribean as we do and we could take them north. We would benefit from there global reach and be affiliated with yet another great brand ( not to mention great pass travel opportunities ). Who knows, once our codeshare with Southwest is up and running, they may not need to keep funding Virgin America anymore. The last piece of the puzzle is we do the South America flying for ourselves ( WestJet Vacations ) and our codeshare partners.

Ya... Buy. Crappy 11.99 stock. I believe it's almost at a 52 week low.

Re: Remember when?
Just think how much that $11.99 stock you bought will be worth in a year when we are seeing the benefits of our codeshare with SW. Not to mention the two or three other interlines coming shortly. Our own rewards program in 2009, A/C's contract negotiations, and a healthy WestJet Vacations this winter should push the price up. The analists 52 week predictions are for $22.00.

Re: Remember when?
The same analysts who predicted the subprime credit crisis or the price of oil spiking to $145?
Or the ABCP mess?
Analysts: paid mouthpieces
Buy through the ESP and dump and diversify every 3 months. Safe and boring. Probably against the culture too. Better on the stress level though.

So when's your layoff notice effective? Oh, wait... never mind, you don't have one, and probably never will.dispatcher wrote:Ya... Buy. Crappy 11.99 stock. I believe it's almost at a 52 week low.

Just think of the buying opportunity it is right now. There's no doubt the stock is getting hammered but every stock is and its not a function of the company. It was a nice $11 drop in oil yesterday! The future is bright!

It's not just WJ stock.
Hhhmmm, is this thing on?
Re: Remember when?
Drop $10G on WJ stock today (in the $11 range), sell it in 6 weeks at $15 and make yourself $3G. Then go shopping for diamonds and furs.

I'm guessing there will be no diamonds and furs under your Xmas tree this year.

at this point I'm happy with food on the table and a job to go to.

Did Blastor get on with WJ? He'd be on the WJ stock prices like a fat kid on candy usually!

This has to be the worst, just-begging-for-karma-to-kick-you-in-the-balls comment I've ever heard, and that's saying a lot given the selection of similar sentiment available from the WestJet camp. Just because a patient is healthy does not mean they are immune, and the current economic cancer won't play favourites...
I’m still waiting for my white male privilege membership card. Must have gotten lost in the mail.

I'm in the mood to tell you to shove it somewhere warm and dark, but I won't. Instead, I'll tell you to reread my post and stress that I said 'probably' when I spoke of layoffs. You can't argue that hands down, Westjet is within 1 or 2 places from the top when comparing job security among the airlines these days. It's no accident either, as we're all busting our asses every day out there striving to be the most competitive kid on the street. I hope to hell that I'll never see another pink slip again in my career, and I believe there's a good chance it won't happen at Westjet.
You're right, no one is immune, but some are more susceptible than others. Hookers sharing needles are far more likely to get HIV than the average housewife.

Complex.
Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Oh yah, nevermind, were not supposed to react to it. Just accept it. Could be just another "alleged WJ employee" afterall.

Re: Remember when?
I remember when I showed up we were at the avitat with about 8 airplanes...now I'm watching our 100 million dollar offices/training center/sim complex going up and moving on to 80 plus airplanes. Back then our farthest destination was Hamilton (with the big blocks! dash 17's) since the dash 9's had to make a tech stop with strong winds back to YYC...now coast to coast to coast with swanky overnights in Regina, Cancun, Barbados, Bahamas, Orlando, St Lucia, Maui, Honolulu and oh ya..my favorite..St Johns and George St.....we've come a long way in my 10 years. Looking forward to the next

You westjet guys are still new and inexperienced....and still love the taste of Kool-aid. Some day you'll be smitten and bitten just like the AC guys.

I think it is the opposite, experienced pilots who put up with pink slip after pink slip are the backbone of this company, sure things aren't "perfect" for everyone, but for those that actually want to fly in Canada and have a say in how the company operates....you won't get that with any other airline in this country.
Re: Remember when?
Well, the stock is up over $13 now, New Year's Eve. You're right about no diamonds and furs under the Christmas tree, but they remain a possible present for the lady at Valentine's Day. I guess I didn't realize that the stock market would take the hit it has taken, but it looks to be trending in the right direction now! We'll see!endless wrote:I'm guessing there will be no diamonds and furs under your Xmas tree this year.shankdown wrote:Drop $10G on WJ stock today (in the $11 range), sell it in 6 weeks at $15 and make yourself $3G. Yah I don't think many saw the big down slide coming. I don't imagine many were out shopping for diamonds and furs this year.
