Anyone know anything about voyaguer and their operations in africa?....I know their bond sucks but how are they as a company???

Me too! Great operation, treat their guys well, no turnover - you're lucky to get a position as they don't come up very often!

Do yourself a favour and do a search.

You'd be smart to quit your job as a captain with Cathay for the chance to fly for VAL in Africa! They offer a really attractive signing bonus as well!!

But i did my search and there's some nasty shit about VAL...But does anyone actually work for VAL who is on avcanada or are they all recent victims???

Is there simply a zero respect factor for all their employees? or do their "missions" work you to death?
I see the logic in why they may suck but haven't heard and real nasty stories yet...

I guess if you have a bone to pick with them it is the worst place in the world but for me and the guys I work with there are no complaints. Most of the people on this forum are not interested in any positive comments like this so I am sure I will get blasted. Oh well.

I have alot of respect for VAL. Was called for an interview over a year and a half ago. At the time at only 600 hours, and full of excitment, I was clueless about VAL. I had to pay for my own flight to YVR and cab to the FBO. I had to wait at the FBO for over 4 and a half hours because they were a little behind causing me to change my return flight to a later time. I got to drink free coffee and chat up the pretty FBO ladies. After about the 6th cup I started to get a little jittery and made several trips to the bathroom. Was finally called in for the interview where I was told up front: "We want to make sure you understand your not REALLY paying for a job here". But something wasn't right. I have to take out a bank loan, but im not paying for a job? They offered me coffee or water. I chose coffee since I was already 6 cups deep, what's the harm in having another! It turned out I wasn't VAL material. I guess I must of looked a little nervous with all the caffeine in my system.

Trip to YVR and return.........$370.00

Cab ride to FBO ..................$20.00

Yes I actually do work there and have for 3 years. I did 1 summer in YVR flying a CRJ100 and have flown the CRJ200 and Dash8 in DRCongo, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Sudan.
I currently put in my bank account(which is all that matters to me) as much as I would if I had spent the last 8 years at any of several large Canadian operators(after tax is all that really matters). For this I work 6 months of the year . Is it perfect hell NO but it is better for me than a lot of other gigs. If you want to be home nights in small town Canada then it isn't the job for you. If you want to travel see a bit of Africa fly with some good folks and make some decent cash, then OK. The living conditions now in HSSS, FZAA and HUEN are exceptional in other bases there are not so good and an extra amount is paid to cover some of the inconvenience.
I am not now nor have I ever been VAL management. I paid that bond got all the interest and princpal back after 1 year .
As for all you so called experts and self righteous know it alls well you know what you can do with your opinions.

Work 6 months a year, 6 "LARGE" figures a year, live where you want, fly a great 705 machine, got my bond back with interest.

The pundits on this forum are so much smarter than everyone else. I would listen to them and not those of us that are actually here and enjoying it.

So-called Voyageur employees. They paid their bonds so ipso facto, anything they say is twaddle.

I love Voyageur topics, they are always as effective as an enema.

For all the bashing that the crews at Voyageur take for whatever reason, I just want to publicly thank them for being there when I needed them. I don't really care whether they paid for their jobs or not, I am just glad they were there. Following is the message I sent to their supervisor this morning.




Mr. Kirk;

I am writing this note to offer sincere thanks to the crew of your King Air from Timmins, who medevaced me from Earlton to Sudbury on Friday morning, 21 November, 2008.
The helicopter which was requested was not available and I was transported by ambulance from New Liskeard to Earlton to meet your aircraft.
The Ornge medical crew were exemplary at making me feel that things were ok but both your captain and co-pilot also took the time to make me feel welcome onboard and without the air service provided, there may have been a different outcome.
I have been involved in aviation all of my life and needless to say, I am happy that this was indeed the most important flight of that life. Thank you very kindly for being there when my need was greatest.

Only run in I had, or rather almost had with voyager, was with a grey haired pilot walking across the apron infront of my pa32-260 that was loaded to the tits and almost dragging the tail on the ground. The look on his face was pricless.

Is it normal to have the tail almost dragging on the ground when the airplane is loaded within its weight and C of G limits in a PA32-260?
