TC sending a credit agency after me?
I have been getting call after call from a company called Account Recovery Services or something like that. It is an auto dialer that says my name and gives me a 1-800 number to call.
I have never paid my $55. Ever. 10 years not once. They normally take it off my taxes.
Anyone else getting these calls? I don't think I owe anyone else money.....

Re: TC sending a credit agency after me?
I had the same problem.
I solved mine by contacting Merlin Preuss directly and letting him know that I will not put up with that kind of harassment from his department.
Worked like magic because Preuss knows I don't bend over and just take it from his ilk.
Anyhow if nothing else I hope it gives you a good feeling being Canadian where the sheep just stand still while being fleeced.

The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

Re: TC sending a credit agency after me?
Once the collection agency calls you don't pay TC directly, pay the collections people. Pay it with a sour smile knowing that the collection people bought your debt from TC and so at the very least TC isn't getting all of the $55. It sucks, but it's better than an equifax black eye...

'Course, it could be the 'wife' and kids in Shamtown looking for their support cheque!

I don't know why pilots refuse to pay for their right to fly. It seems we like to compare ourselve to other professional corps, like doctors, engineers, lawyers, etc. If you look at their membership fees, the 55$ is NOTHING compared to what they pay. Engineers in Alberta for example have to pay 260.00$ initial fees (processing of application) plus 265.00$ yearly to maintain their right to practice. It is the same with lawyers and doctors. Stop whining and pay the friggin fee!co-joe wrote:Once the collection agency calls you don't pay TC directly, pay the collections people. Re: TC sending a credit agency after me?
But the thing is, that $55 is not a "membership fee". It's known as extortion in most countries. What do you get for paying that fee exactly (other than a lack of collection agencies bothering you)? If you can answer that, I'll start thinking about paying it.AuxBatOn wrote:I don't know why pilots refuse to pay for their right to fly. Hey AuxBatOn,
Sad to say but Guido is correct. Read CAR 404. When the Doc's rubber stamp hits the LVC ( medical ) with a "fit", you're good to go. Processing fee?! It's their stupid paperwork, let them deal with it on their own dime. And what, $55 to drop a form into a file cabinet. Go pound sand. It is extortion and shame on us who put up with that excrement.

Re: TC sending a credit agency after me?
I know technically it's a processing fee, however in the grand scheme of things, compared to other professionnals, you do not pay much to keep your job...

Re: TC sending a credit agency after me?
. I like you post; and not like some of the others that think all pilots make a quarter mil a year. I think the ones here making peasant wages and trying to support a familly deserve a break. BTW I paid my taxes-taxes-taxes- OH yea and the doctor ,who paid taxes (maybe)? I think he was South African and was exempt.

Re: TC sending a credit agency after me?
I'm not sure anybody remembers, but when the
$55 "fee" (not a tax
) was brought it, it
was to pay for your AIP subscription.
Well, the AIP is no more. Logically, if the service
disappears, so should the tax that pays for it.
But Canadians are sheep, so it won't.

Re: TC sending a credit agency after me?
And that head in the sand attitude is why you Canadians get reamed more and more each year by the idiots who work for you, paid by you from your taxes.....I know technically it's a processing fee, however in the grand scheme of things, compared to other professionnals, you do not pay much to keep your job...
.....then again the ones who dream up this kind of extortion are obviously smarter than those who pay it for the privilege of being a pilot in the Peoples Socialist Republic of Kanada.
It's sad really when you are old enough to remember what we paid taxes for back a few decades ago to see how well programmed the government has you poor souls.

Re: TC sending a credit agency after me?
., I know where the taxes are from. However, I believe that we need to pay some sort of tax to have the governmental services we have today. Like anyone else, I hate being taxed and enjoy tax breaks. However, how would you pay for programs and governmental departments like DND, Health Care, etc without taxes?
We are professionnals, so we like to say. Seeing how much other "professionnals" pay to exercice their right to practice, I don't think a small 55$ is much. Like any other professionals, once you get with a reputable employer, they will pay your "dues" for you. Do you complain when you have to pay the 20$ a year for your drivers license? I think that's the same deal....

Re: TC sending a credit agency after me?
Trouble is, you/we probably didn't pay enough then, and now, with a huge accumulated debt, a government of any stripe has to find ways to pay it back, thus all sorts of user fees on things that used to be 'free'.remember what we paid taxes for back a few decades ago

The bottom line is you pay taxes for services...I understand that.
But as these bureaucracies expand they become more dysfunctional.
Anyhow having paid into the system all my life all I want now is my old age pension and my Canada Pension plan cheques.

Geez did I say that....? Or just think it....?
Re: TC sending a credit agency after me?
AuxBatOn...it ain't 55$ a year, unless you're under 40. Over 40, it's 110$ a year. Can you say "age discrimination"? Knew you could.
As WOXOF so rightly put it..."Tell them to pound sand...."

Re: TC sending a credit agency after me?
Doc, I agree that it should be the same for everyone. IMHO, if should be a fee for your license, and not for renewing your medical. Nevertheless, it's still not much money, you old people probably make twice as much as usDoc wrote:AuxBatOn...it ain't 55$ a year, unless you're under 40. Over 40, it's 110$ a year. It's NOT the money auxbat....it's the bloody principal of the thing. The "tax" should not be there at all.

Good comparison, pilots to engineers.
