CEO takes pay cut...This is more like it...

CEO of JAL has cut his pay to the point he earns less that the pilots.
If only more CEO's thought like this, I probably wouldn't have lost half my pension over the last couple of months......

Would pilots voluntarily take pay cuts to a level on a par with most rank and file management?

Cargojet's CEO and Executive team invoked pay cuts to themselves this fall.
N2, In the dire days of post 9-11 airline survivalship, Canada 3000 pilots (all employess actually) opted to work for free for months, just to keep the airline alive!
Good food for thought.

Re: CEO takes pay cut...This is more like it...
A little known fact. In the dying few hours of C3 the Royal pilot group offered themselves up for layoff in spite of the new merged seniority list as a way to slash costs and help save the company. Their reasoning was seniority is meaningless in a company that doesn't exist. The Maestro wrote:Cargojet's CEO and Executive team invoked pay cuts to themselves this fall.

But not nearly as deep as this gem you posted in the employment forum Samson.
Time in the log book isn't worth your life.
The most difficult thing about flying is knowing when to say no.
After over a half a century of flying I can not remember even one trip that I refused to do that resulted in someone getting killed because of my decision not to fly.

Even though this CEO took a pay cut in salary, it'll be interesting to know what his "bonus" will be...

Traditionally, Japanese CEO's make only a fraction of what their American counterparts do. The multi million yearly salaries for CEO's is an American invention.

...what does a CEO of an airline really do to earn a huge wage. I was always under the impression that the those 'in the trenches' did all the real work anyway.

The CEO of GM made the same salary in '05 as the combined salary of the top 9 executives at Toyota combined. This year Toyota's CEO made 900,000, Mitsubishi's 360,000 compared to GM's at 14.4m.(total compensation) And they are asking for a bailout. I know this is cars and not airplanes, but it goes to show I think the Japanese are on to something.

What do bus drivers do to earn a bigger wage than pilots?

Maybe the JAL crew was just cleaning up a few ponits in case they had to face a hearing like the newly concerted socalists in the attached video.
Looks to me like they missed the meeting that passed out the updates for their public perception and grovelling manual.
The vid has a 10 sec ad at the beginning, but, is easily suffered through. Give it a view.

I doubt anyone here has ever heard of
www.cisco.com
despite the fact that you use their equipment
every day. Anyways, 'way back in 2001, the
bottom fell out of the tech market, and the
CEO of cisco, John Chambers, took a one
dollar per year salary and no bonus, until 2004,
when his salary of $350k/yr was re-instated.
Now, how many people here would work for
their company for one dollar per year, for
three years?
Didn't think so.

Jim Pattison ran Expo 86 in Vancouver from start to finish for the astronomical sum of 1 dollar.

I hope you're talking about all the CEO browsing this site Hedley and not about pilots.Hedley wrote: Now, how many people here would work for

it's much more easy to take a pay cut when you have enough on your account to live 10 years without any income
1$/year during 4 years knowing the basic salary was 350k$/year doesn't impress at all and sounds like a joke
Re: CEO takes pay cut...This is more like it...
Heh. If you think John Chambers is a "joke", it
shows that you know absolutely nothing about
him:

To a pilot, the CEO makes a lot of money.
To a first officer on a turboprop, left seat on a B744 makes a lot of money.
To a biscuit shooter, an FO makes a lot of money.
To a ticket agent, pilots make a lot of money.
To a marketing manager, the in-house counsel makes a lot of money.

I said that it might not be such a big sacrifice for a guy earning 350grant/year to reduce his pay to 1$/y during 4 years, and you can't reasonably expect the same effort from people doing 1/10 of what mr Chambers is making...
