What's your favorite points card?

Post by sissyphus »

I've been collecting points all over the place for years now, but have never really cashed them in. Which one's pay out the best? What's the best thing you've gotten?

I paid for all of my flight training with an american express airmiles card. Which gives you a few points for every dollar spent. It gave me enough points For My Wife and I plus three kids to go to Busch Gardens, Universal Studios and Sea World this summer as well as Parc Safari twice. And we still have some points left i think. We also only fill up at shell which gives air miles as well. Jean Coutu and Reno Depot also give air miles with purchases.

If you are able to pick your FBO's, go to Atlantic.... they give you a $5 certificate for every 100 Gallons you buy. you then enter the certificates online and they send you a prepaid visa with the amount youve entered, then you just keep adding to it as you collect more certificates....my share was about 350 bucks this year, and we just got a second airplane that holds a lot more gas, so next year i could easily see getting over 800.

also, get one of those Marriott Visas. if you put whatever expenses you can on it, and stay at marriotts whenever you can you'll easily rack up 2 weeks or more free in a top tier Marriott, or even get rewards like HD tvs and shite.

hands down: citi bank enrich platinum mastercard

a whole 1% dividend on every single dollar spent although there is a $500 maximum on the yearly dividend payout

benefits of a platinum card

no annual fee

it doesn't matter where you shop or what you buy and you don't have to redeem your dividend at a specific store etc

they just send you a cheque every year for the amount of your dividend

the only card that may be better is from capitol one but they have to offer it to you. you can't apply for it.

For FBO's I would have to agree that Atlantic Bucks are the best.
The only problem is that when you reach $600 they will send you an I1099 income tax form. So just don't let it go over $575 to be safe. When I filled mine up to $575 I took one out in my wifes name and got hers up to $450 so $1025 is not bad for a year. What is surprising is that the company picks what FBO's we go to.

As for hotel,s it would have to be Hilton all the way. You get to double dip with airline miles.

Marriott points and Atlantic FBO's, for sure. Hilton is a close second for the hotels, though, no doubt.

We are talking http://www.atlanticaviation.com all their locations are listed.

You get a $5 for every 100 gallons you buy. When you get $100 worth you enter them on the web site then they send you a $100 American Express gift card. As you collect more Atlantic Bucks you just enter them online which recharges your American Express card.
If you ask for a "Top Off" its double Atlantic Bucks.

Our company tried to negotiate a better fuel price in exchange for the Atlantic Bucks but, Atlantic Aviation didn't go for it since they know what happened to the Denver Jet Center when they cut off the pilots "Denver Bucks". They were forced to reinstate them a few months later.

I give our company credit for allowing the pilots to keep all the points, gifts and perks we get from the FBO's, hotels, rental cars, and airlines.

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned Sheraton Points Program. I've been racking up the points with the MasterCard and Stays for the past 6 years and have had 9 weeks of free stays in hotspots and still have over 100,000 pts. For every dollar you get a point from the MC. If you use the MC to pay at a Sheraton family hotel you get 3x's the points. Love the sweet sleeper beds.

For fuel, Atlantic Bucks win hands down.

For rental cars, Budget Awards is the best around. Cars cost more but you're getting great stuff in return.

It sucks ass when the other crew member belongs to another hotel club. Captain has the last say though. :P Kidding.

Exactly! The salaries haven't moved in years because of the introduction of "management" companies. The days of getting paid 150g's a year for 300 hours of flying are gone. I wish you all well as the recession creeps up on us.

I tried to register for the Atlantic points, but they require a US address. Anyone found a way around this?

Use a US P.O. Box address or if you send them to me I will split it with you 50/50.
