Who else enjoys the opposition making an ass of themselves?

Post by Northern Skies »

This is one ballsy move, the opposition is falling right into it!

The Lieberals are teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, the loan they took to finance the campaign depends on this fund. The Bloc gets 86% of their funding from the public, it would cripple them too.

It all depends on how many people see the "stimulus" argument at its face value. Typical left-wing sentiment.. "let's keep taxing the sh*t out of them and toss some back when they can't stay afloat".... as if they would be threatening non-confidence over that.

and conservateur once again selling any canadian asset they can to balance the budjet.... would you sell your house and rent it back to balance your budjet????? long trem it's stupid and cost us more. the only reason they cut funding to political party it's to hurt the liberal, the 2% gdp stimulus they offering is the lowest of any developed country, they don't give a dam about the ontario industry, traditional alberta politics, that's why there is no manufacturing there.... as long has they have oil, once it's gone they look for something else to sell at bargain price to show a balance sheet...

It's great politics on the part of the Conservatives; Make the others come out in the open and argue why they should be given tax dollars.

As for a stimulus package, perhaps this country is doing the least of any in the developed world becuase we haven't got ourselves in the same economic mess as the others. And for that, credit goes to both the former Liberal government and the current Conservatives.

As for Alberta not having much of a manufacturing base, along with all the other western provinces, you can attribute that to geography and Liberal politics. The western provinces are a lot further away from the main US markets. The Liberals, at least as far back as Trudeau, have always directed support to businesses and initiatives in central canada while largely excluding anything based in the west.

Great God man!! The nation is tottering on the brink of catastrophe, and all you can do is introduce logic? Shame! :D

The finance minister has said the next full budget due in January will have economic stimulus measures in it. That's prudent because the dust still hasn't settled, and whatever measures he does take will be considered in the context of the whole year's budget rather than a last minute slap on giveaway. Plus it's only a little over a month away so what's the big deal?

I think the public political party financing was definitely partisan motivated and had nothing to do with the economy though. But so what? The opposition can defeat the government if they want over it and petition the GG to form a coalition government instead of the Conservatives. Way easier than beating them in an expensive election.

a coalition government instead of the Conservatives
That "coalition" government has about as much chance
of functioning, as I do of sprouting wings and flapping my
way to the moon this afternoon

I'm not saying it's impossible, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Couldn't agree more. On top of that both the NDP and Bloc have said they wouldn't agree to it with Dion in charge of the Liberals. So that would mean an immediate resignation and interim leader hastily selected who would immediately become the leader of the coalition. That person would go from nothing to leading a fractious coalition government during the biggest economic crisis since the 30's in a couple of days. Piece of cake.

Who do you suppose a) can do the job, and b) wants it?

Notice Jack and Jill aren't stepping forward.

I think cutting political funding had a little bit to do with dealing a political blow to the other parties. The bigger issue was suspending government unions from striking. And showing that everyone in the public sector should be expected to pinch pennies.

Two birds one stone.

Well, it was on the news awhile ago that the Cretin and Ed Broadbent are getting their heads together to thrash out a coalition on behalf of the Liberals and the Dippers. No word on whether they've invited Lucien Bouchard to join them to complete the circle. :)

Actually Canada is the only country to offer the 2% GDP stimulus.....global economists have said that this is what is necessary and Canada is the only country that has actually gone and done it.

I thought we lived in a Democratic Society, this is the most undemocratic thing I have ever seen. If I wanted a Communist government that told us who was going to lead us I'd move to one. We just had an election less than 2 months ago and we voted in the Conservatives, definately not the Liberal or NDP or Bloc. The liberals had the lowest votes since confederation, and now they think that they should be the leading party in this country, how democratic is that. If the Liberals NDP and Bloc want to form one party then they should have to form One Party, not a coalition.

The sole purpose of the Bloc is to seperate this country, and the Liberals and NDP want to form one with them. So basically they are saying they don't care about this country and only if they are in power or not, considering the Blocs sole purpose is to tear this country apart.

Where did democracy go?

Someone please call the military and tell them we need a coup. There are some serious morons running around in Ottawa and none of them are in tune with the populace of Canada. The only voices that count in this situation are those of the people that actually cast a vote in the election last month, and those voices gave a mandate to the Conservative party to lead. If the Liberals and NDP succeed in their bid to overthrow the legally elected government of Canada, there should be consequences. As a concerned citizen, I am ready to march on Ottawa and make my voice heard.

Soooo, don't all you lazy *ssholes, those of you who didn't make the effort to get off your duffs and vote, feel like losers? See what happens if you don't involve yourself in politics? All the creeps and jerks that got back into the Commons got in because nobody bothered to read a bit, put on their coats and vote them all out.

Can you imagine a so-called government being run by yahoos that were not voted in? A loose assortment of losers, thieves and those dorks in the Bloc, whose only purpose is to screw Canada and enrich themselves?

Broadbent and Chretien? OMFG where are my wooden stakes? Thieves crooks, robbers, opportunists and the scum of the earth, all arguing over who gets the most, the biggest share and the best benefits while exploiting all the loopholes and stealing the election.

OH CANADA! I hope Harper calls in the military and has the whole lot shot.

Just the opposition?

The whole gov't is a joke.

But hey, what's the alternative?

Banks? Corporations? Absolute dictatorship?

SO glad I'm mortal and having no kids.

I'm not cursing anyone to live in this stupid world, unless she pays me 39828292923829382000.99 dollars per child.

Did I say that? Of course it was. These kinds of things they do when it is most damaging to the other parties, and/or least damaging to themselves.

With the hardline conservatives in power we are going the way of the USA and fast. His regime is so unfriendly to democracy and the media. He does not protest any of the USA's anit democratic security measures. He is for the North American union that will have us all living at the poverty level of Mexico.

Go ahead keep raging again the liberal or terrorist bogeyman while the real damage is being done.

Smart tactics trying to cut party funding, maybe stirred the pot a little too much though. Damn opposition pissing me off!!! We just wasted $30 million on the last election and they are considering another? Or a take over? Legally I believe they can do it and make it a legit government (though it would be dysfunctional and short lived), but in the middle of a global financial crisis when people look to have some stability in their government? IDIOTS. If they put their country ahead of politics they'd work together to get some stimulus action happening!

Harpers playing political chess with the party funding, the opposition are prepared to screw the nation and their own voters just to taste power.

Next election I'm getting a big blue Harper lawn sign. Dammit I even used to like the Liberals back in the day.

He probably would have more chance of getting elected than the nutty professor

Just proves beyond all reasonable doubt these political whores will do anything to steal power from an elected government
