I'm not a big fan of perimeter as my previous posts have indicated but the job offer they posted sounds like a hell of a deal. Money that you can live on a schedule that you can plan your life around, an investment in furthering your education.

They have a different Pay Scale if Your a Pilot Waiting to go flight line you make less than if your just a joe off the streets.

Training Coordinator

This job involves managing the training and maintaining the records for approximately 100 pilots. The training is done in a simulator and company aircraft. The groundwork is done primarily with an internet based training system.
This position is based in Winnipeg and the hours are 8-5 Monday to Friday.
The person applying for this position should be a mature individual who is able to accept responsibility. They must work with minimal supervision and work well with other departments. In addition the candidate should have good computer skills including basic website design and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
I would prefer to hire a private pilot with the above qualifications who is planning to progress into commercial aviation. As a perk we can offer this person use of our simulator. Perimeter is also willing to provide an instrument rating free of charge after the candidate has satisfactorily completed 18 months of service. I guess there may be a Wannabe Shortage their, Why don't they take a wannabee out from the cold and give them a nice desk job for the two years there going to have to wait to get flying.

and yet look at ramp wages anywhere (and i'm not talking about wannabe pilot ramp companies) at AC I made $7 to start after a year was up to $10.30 as a part timer, current job is de-icing at pearson $11.25 start full time. we camplain about companies like buffalo and tindi not paying enough and perimiter but the unfortunate truth is the guy at tindi making $2500 a month is making $1000 more than me.

Some of you guys need a reality check. $13 per hour plus free use of their sim, a free MIFR after 18 months (basically a $10K bonus) and an eventual Metro F/O spot.. That's an great offer for the type of candidate they're looking for.. a PPL holder working on their CPL. $13/hr isn't a bad wage either. I've made quite a bit less working at various office and retail jobs in my 20s and they certainly didn't have an extras like what's being offered here.

P.S. what kind of money do you expect to be paid for a PPL holder who doesn't even require a high school education.

$13/hr * 2000hr/ann = $26 000/ann + MIFR

you want to raise a family in this business you better have a little experiance to offer. I know their experianced guys are over six figures

I guess I would measure the job for what it is... a desk job where you need to know how to use a computer and have some basic web making skills. The optimum candidate being one working towards an aviation career. But read, optimum. Not a necessity.

Is it enough to support a family? No.
Should it? No. But then I don't believe Macdonald/Burger King/etc should either. Its one step above an entry level job.

Personally if your young with little to no experience, and need a job to support your ongoing training then this would be quite good. Especially since Perimeter often hire from within for positions. Provided the individual hired goes for the long haul and does something else in their off time/weekends. Even if they don't stick around too much beyond 18 months and the Free ME, then they will still be well known by those in Perimeter by more then just word of mouth if they want to come back asking for a job.

Looks like a fair deal to me.

Perimeter is hiring rampies/wannabes, especially for the Thompson base. Things are moving quite fast up here, not as fast in YWG though. One of my friends got to go flightline in 4 months on the metro... VERY fast and unusual, but gives you a basic idea of what can happen if you do solid work and go above and beyond. The waitlist is quite short...

It should, it is more than an minimum wage job.

I may have spent too many years in Alberta, but my 16 year old son made $12/hour cutting grass and general yard clean-up during the past summer. Look at the posting again it says Training Coordinator. I know it is their job vacancy but the rate of pay seems to be very low for the position and responsibilities. Think of it... You would be responsible to ensure all pilots are trained to CARs and CASS and then TC comes aong and notices there is an element of training that hasn't been completed...Not only does the company lose; the pilots lose; and the Training Coordinator loses. All this for $13/hour.

I have been in this industry for over 20 years and the rates of pay still boggle my mind at times. I have a nephew out of high school 1 year and working for CN Rail as a yard man. He made $60,000 last year which included time training. 3 years from now he expects to make engineer...$100,000/year. We fly planes and fix them for what $13/hour. I think it is time to give ourselves a wake up call as an industry and not just special intrest groups in the industry. It takes pilots and mechanics and ground handlers. I don't know about the rest of you, but I am a long way from $100,000. End of Rant. Sorry. There is my red neck showing again.

Thanks for your rant dash8dave. I am wondering why you would rant about a Training Coordinator position pay, when you are the one working for free. 20 years in the industry and "a long way from $100 000". That's terrible. There are metro drivers at the company that you critisize making $100 000 and have only been in the industry 3-4 years.

You explain the issues as an industry problem, I see it more as a company (maybe that you work for) problem, or a personal problem. My money's on the young lad who steps up as the Perimeter training coordinator, he/she may get a free Mutli IFR, his/her first job, and $100 grand a year before you!
