I know they lost a few contracts a little while ago and that there were a few guys that got laid off. Any word on some final numbers and how everyone else is doing?

I know a guy who got laid-off from Canada 3000 and he was collecting 70k/year in unemployment and playing golf until he got hired at Zoom. Think about it.

I think you may have your numbers a little askew. The only way a
guy in Canada can get 70k from EI is if he steals it.

After you have recieved any ui payments and when you do get a job again, and are making a decent wage, that the taxman claws back a percentage depending on how large your new pay is.

I don't think the layoffs take effect until the new year. I still hear them departing every night. Maybe CJ will pick up a couple of contracts and the call backs will happen sooner than later.

Thanks for the replies. 34 that is quite a few. Hope everyone manages to find something. I know a lot of good people that are working there and the company is a decent one.

with the commitments of house and family, it's not at all even close to manageable in YVR, or in most major centres in canada.

Well, if the choice is to make 41k or nothing, I'd go with the 41k.

EI does not pay 41,000. It pays a maximum of 55% of this before tax. As mentioned previously, not much.

i thougth it was about the cargojet people that were being laid-off?
i talked to some dudes and was informed that mtce got hit hard.
not sure of the exact number,but seems morale is down in yhm!
i know a few mech's that work there,and they tell me things have
changed since the inception of this company.

Same old story in Aviation expanding too quickly. You can't make money flying 767's 4 hours a night 5 days a week that cost you 300K each a month in lease. Not to mention a 757 costing close to the same, the saving in fuel burn aside if you can buy a 727 for a half million the price of fuel is going to have to go way the fack up before the math starts working.

Can I add Cargojet on the Dead pool list of 2009?

I don't think they'll die .. but I think it'll be a long year or so. To answer the question, sounds like most of the f/o's out west have moved onto something else, for the so's in yhm I'm not sure, though it's not the best time of year to get something. Get a nice big contract, big new planes, then bite the hand feeding you. Now you got planes you can't fill or make money with. They should have been doing the YYZ-YVR-HNL route 7 days a week.

Your right though, Cargojet won't disappear - AJ stiill has all his own stuff to move and that wouldn't change. Lets hope they can turn it around.

On the other hand - there are winds of change abound..........................

I think it depends on the province, but my wife got $762 every 2 weeks after she was "restructured" this past summer. Of course, you end up paying extra tax on this when you file your taxes in the spring.

What do you mean the hnl work? You've mentioned that before but I've never heard anyone talk about such a route. pm too if you like.

I heard that Flightcraft might be hiring a few ex-Cargojet SO's. It's good to some guys/gals finding work.
