Hey guys, anyone know anything about companies operating out of Whitehorse Yukon? I've heard of Alkan air and Air North, anyone have any info on either one, thanks.

I have talked to both companies in the past, they both seem quite good. Air North does not hire direct, they take people from the ramp/dispatch and move them up...at least this is what they told me when I applied before. From what I gathered you will be on the ground for about two years.

I've flown out of Whitehorse. Alcan and Air North are probably your only bet, and not a good bet at that - a lot of pilots love Whitehorse and stick around. The float operators up there all have very high time pilots that like flying out of Whitehorse as well - Owner/Operator types and oldtimers. Whitehorse is one of the most dificult areas to fly floats in Canada by far (small lakes at high altitude, muddy winding shallow rivers, mountain wave action etc). It is also one of the most beautiful areas in Canada. Don't go there looking for a float job if you are low time, its a long way to drive. If you do drive to Whitehorse, don't stop there - keep on going to Dawson - no flying jobs there but some great dance hall girls and a great party every night of the summer.
Good luck on your job search.

They don't want to leave and rightly so. Whitehorse is one of the nicest places in Canada, (that I've ever seen anyways.) I worked there for a season, twisting wrenches and would move there in a heart beat!
Dawson is pretty cool too. Dies right down in the winter, but what a town in the summer!
