Does anybody know if VFR training has begun at all ACC's or just a select few? If I had the choice I would like to train at either Surrey or Edmonton. Is there anybody who is training at these ACC's currently? How is the training? Do they use LCD moniters for tower simulation?

I just saw the new VFR sim at the Edmonton ACC, very cool. It's a 240 degree sim with very large screens. It only has a generic airport loaded for now but future plans include digital models of local airports. The sim techs were saying that the Pearson airport is being modeled right now and should be ready soon. As for the 1st Edmonton VFR course, it starts later this month.

A VFR course started this week in Toronto. Heard it was thrown together at the last minute. There is only one instructor and the sim doesn't even work yet??

I am assuming the YEG VFR course this month will be geared towards staffing CYMM.
Thanks for the info.

Have been in YWG VFR pool since May.
In November there was a rumour that a course would start in February.
Thats not happening. Don't know why.

it's safe to assume YMM will be one of the #1 destinations for new controllers indefinitely. will be high turnover.

Really??? From what I've seen it looks like 5 computer monitors positioned in front of a keyboard with a semi working version of flight sim running. Is this really an improvement over the 360 in Cornwall and actually going to provide valuable training? Does it provide room for more than one trainee to operate at a time?

Does anyone have any information on training at Calgary Tower, what is the training process like in comparison to quieter towers? Have the success rates improved in recent times? What are the current success rates? etc.. If any one has recently trained YYC tower I'd really appreciate some feedback.
Thanks very much

Actually, YMM has enough trainees at the moment. I don't know the exact numbers, but a lot of FSS were going to cross train, and there is a controller from Whitehorse there training, and another from Villeneuve that apparently will be going up there soon. I have heard that City Center will be getting 2 trainees, don't know where anyone else is going. I imagine CYBW and YZF will be more in need of controllers then YMM. I'll look at our latest operational staffing numbers when I get to work tomorrow and see if others in the region are needed.

I heard there's a VFR course for Toronto Pearson starting in June and a Winnipeg IFR course starting in September. I'm still waiting to hear about any courses further out West.
