The easter bunny is dead... (snap on killed it)
So, never been a snap on guy, always been a mastercraft maximum dude. Was looking for a large toolbox (56" with top/bottom 72" just roller) so I had the snap on guy come by. Now, I was willing to spend some hefty beans to get what I wanted, and I was considering snap on because of their legendary quality. So buddy rolls up in his half a trillion dollar truck stuffed with snap on shit to show me this box. The box was in the back, I was in the front, I looked at it, it looked awesome. So many drawers, I could envision all of my ratcheting wrenches and air tools snuggled together in their beautiful new hacienda. I walk up to this box, somewhat in awe and begin to inspect it. All it took was opening the one (large) drawer, where I expected my sockets to live, to make my decision
What a piece of shit.
It was flimsy as hell. If I bought that thing, put it in my shop and one of my friends came over and opened a drawer, they would laugh at me. The guy wanted a 'negotiable to a degree' 4500 for this thing and it was the cheapest POS I have yet to encounter on my search for box.
I had never entertained the thought of getting a snap on anything because I wasn't sure of the dollar to value ratio but this time, for this purchase I was pretty sure I wanted a snap on box.
It's like learning the easter bunny never existed. I was expecting to be blown away by the quality of the box. I was expecting to reluctantly pay a hefty price but ultimately be happy with my purchase, but due to the quality of the box I find myself almost offended that they tried to pull one over on me.
For anyone who is in the market, feel free to look but take my word for it, the KRA series snap on boxes are no better than an offshore POS manufactured in China for 1/3 the price.
I now need to continue the hunt. I am looking for a 56" top/bottom chest combo or a 72" roller cab with work station on top (not the hutch just the mdf/steel/high density plastic work surface. for those who will suggest either waterloo, jet, gray, mastercraft maximum, sears, no dice, they all make large cabs but their biggest are all 41-42" and I must have more storage than that. So, anyone knows a place to get this type of thing either shoot me a PM or hit me up in the thread.
Thanks

Check these guys out. I particularly like what you can do with the drawers. I've seen one in person, and they are built like tanks.
McMaster-Carr might be another source for cabinets also.

just curious were you are located in this wonderful country. Work on cars for a living and I have just bought a matco tool box. Best box Ive bought, you can sit on the double roller drawers, and made in america. Best box Ive bought yet. Just wondering were you were located and where a dealer would be located near you.

Dont enjoy it very much, pays the bills and for flight training. Counting the days until I can fly for a living(maybe)

Re: The easter bunny is dead... (snap on killed it)
I was a fool and bought one of them fancy 56" roller cabinets from Crap-On about 6 years ago. Dropped 4500$ and was all giddy I had something nice to stuff my overpriced snap on crap into. The brake feature of the wheels to prevent the box from rolling is a joke. I can lean on my box with the brakes fully set and it moves with ease. For 4500 you would think the fricken brakes would at least work. I have tried unsuccessfully of having them replace my box or at the very least get new wheel assemblys. It falls on deaf ears. My only choice now is to bad mouth Snap-On every chance I get and to warn others they are not worth the money. As well I refuse to buy anything from Snap-on now and encourage others to do the same.
How can you tell which one is the pilot when you walk into a bar?....Don't worry he will come up and tell you.
Re: The easter bunny is dead... (snap on killed it)
I've got several snap on boxes and a couple rollers. No probs! These things have been all over Canada and they've held up just fine. My crappy T roller in my garage is falling apart tho, and the furthest it's gone is the street lol. I even lost the keys to one of my snap-on rollers and my dealer ordered me a new set no charge. Anyway guess it looks like I'm one of the minority that would recommend snapon boxes, but i think they're well worth it...

I think Crappy tire tools are wayyy better than Snap...

Re: The easter bunny is dead... (snap on killed it)
I bought a Snap-on KRA chest when I was just out of school 5 yrs ago. And I have no problems with it. I did tip it over once and all the drawers came open. The rails on one of the bottom drawers bent so the drawer wouldn't close. So when the Snap-on guy came I thought my lifetime warranty would cover them. But he informed me that they were only covered them if the were broken....not bent....so he broke them and then gave me a new set.
That is why I buy Snap-on...I can get new sliders and brakes every two weeks if I wanted too. And when I need too upgrade, they will take my box as a trade in.
I guess a good dealer is a bonus too...and we have that here.

Having a good dealer is definately key, with some the warrenty means nothing.
