Where will you be?
I'm starting post secondary next year and was wondering who else is going into aviation related studies in Sept.
I applied to:
Western's Commercial Airline Management program with flight training
Waterloo's geo and aviation
Sault College's flight prog.
Seneca's flight degree
At the moment my first choice is Western because my number one priority is to diversify.
Cheers,

Re: Where will you be?
a float rating, but still not the 50 hours that most company's want for insurance.
Re: Where will you be?
Do you want to be a pilot when your done Post Secondary? If so, any degree/diploma program you choose will be regarded pretty much exactly the same. With a few exceptions depending on your career path. If you want to fly floats, go to Confed....not Seneca. But as far as 'DIVERSIFYING', regardless of where you go to school, it will depend on your actual flying experience that will determine that. When you finish all of your flight training you are essentially given a license to learn. How you choose to diversify that license is up to you.
......In short, go wherever is cheapest!!!

Whatever you do just have fun while you do your training cause it only last so long then the real world comes knocking on the door.
Re: Where will you be?
Do you guys know of any company that recruit directly from any of the four institutions listed above? Also is confed. viewed more favourably than seneca? Are there any seneca grad(s) in here?
by the way i'm starting seneca in sept.

Re: Where will you be?
I know there are a few companies up north that recruit from confed, mind you that was a few years back.
zlin_pilot, must be a soo student or grad(That is not meant as an attack on you), You can definetly land a job with what confed gives you in floats, trust me on that(I dont know how it is now with the economic downturn but a few years ago I've known people in my class to have a float gig a few months befor gradiuation)
looking for that first job i would much prefer to hold a float rating with what confed gives you than a multi IFR.(I know I know, the MIFR is more expensive to get afterwards than a basic float rating)
But i guess it all depends on what an individual thinks will be better for him/her.

damn!, it looks as though there aren't much seneca grads on the board. Either that or they're all working or sh@t faced for family day.

Which school you go to depends entirely on what you want after you graduate. I would say that the majority of soo grads do not fly floats after they leave. Most instruct, land flying jobs up north, or if they are desperate, work on the ramp somewhere. If you really want to fly floats, go to confed and you will land a float job somewhere. If floats aren't for you, go to Sault or Seneca and get your group 1 and you'll be well on your way.
