TSA fingerprint agencies
The US Transportation Security Administration now reqires the submission of fingerprints as one of the steps prior to being approved for any Initial Type training conducted in simulators in the US - Flitesafety and Simuflite being the most familiar ones. This requirement applies even if you are currently receiving Recurrent training at US simulators and do not require submission of fingerprints to meet the Category 4 requirements, but only to an additonal type that requires an initial course, for example - current on C-550 and C-560 but now require type training on Citation XLS, which is considered a new type rating.
One of the nuisance things is the trip I had to do to Grand Forks, North Dakota to get fingerprinting done and submitted to TSA.
Does anyone else here know of any other acceptable agencies in Canada besides the one listed for CYUL that might be authorized by TSA to collect and submit fingerprints for Initial type (or Category 2, as TSA refers to it) type training on simulators in the US?

Long story short I was going through BUF with my wife who we knew would be yanked in for a visa purchase and after they kept us there for over an hour it was our turn. When the guy turned to me and asked what I had been arrested for he sure got my attention fast. He said he had my fingerprints on file and what did I do to get fingerprinted. After I was done crying,
I fessed up that I was a pilot,
and that my airport pass had caused me to be fingerprinted.
The question I have is if I voluntarily gave up my fingerprints to my government agency , why was another country given that information?
I dont remember a freedom of information act form with my signature on it .
So if you have been fingerprinted for an airport pass they may have those records already and I would think you woudn't have to get it done again.

I was surprised they had my prints on file too. No criminal record yet. I told the agent I've been bonded and had to give them to get my airport security pass. He want to know why the secret service had a file on me too. I told him years ago vise president Mondale's secret service agents had the pleasure of my company on a fishing trip to NWO and they probably did some checking of their own. After that they treated me like one of the boys.

As of a couple of weeks ago, one of our folks told me the only way he could do an FAA type was to first cross the border for the printing--they don't even trust their own consulates/embassies to do it (even though they are supposed to be "american soil")
You can't make honey out of dog sh!t
Re: TSA fingerprint agencies
old thread, but is there a guy in YEG that does them? Nothing listed for AB on the site http://www.asc-csc.com/printoffices/

Re: TSA fingerprint agencies
TSA fingerprinting does not have to be done on American soil. I had mine done in Montreal. I'm not sure where else in Canada does it. I guess their thinking is Quebec trusts Canadians even less than the Americans do, so it's a safe bet to let a Quebecer do it.
HA! Just kidding, I love you, Quebec.
By the way it was at flightsafety on Ryan Avenue where I had mine done.

Re: TSA fingerprint agencies
Contact the Operations Manager at Kreos Aviation in Saskatoon and he can hook you up with fingerprints in Saskatoon. We have a TSA approved finger printer on staff.
Re: TSA fingerprint agencies
Why not just do your type rating and simulator training in another country?
An increasing number of air operators are taking this approach because of the zenophobic attitude of the USA. In the past five or six years friends of mine have refused to go to the USA and their employers arranged for their type rating training to be done in friendly countries. International pilots and cabin crew with enough seniority to choose their routes are avoiding flying to or over the the USA because of its hostility towards them.
As a result of the hostile attitude of the USA towards visitors of any description smart type rating trainers and simulator operators are basing more of their equipment in countries that allow all customers to enter without excessive hassles. Let the training organisations know that this is what you want to do and let them know why so that they will be even more motivated to open up new bases or base their whole operations in friendly countries.
Just avoid the USA!
It's sad to have to make such a post. Twenty or thirty years ago the USA was a great place to visit that made visitors for both pleasure and work feel welcome. All that has long gone.

Re: TSA fingerprint agencies
For fingerprinting services in Canada contact the TSA help desk. I had some done in Edmonton a couple years ago.

When I had to get my fingerprints taken for training a couple of years ago the gentleman in Edmonton that does it was on holidays so I simply phoned U.S. customs at the YYC airport and explained the situation to them and the reason I needed the fingerprints taken. They were very helpful just made an appointment went in to the airport filled out some paper work they took my prints, I provided them with a prepaid FedEX envelope addressed to the TSA and they mailed it off and charged no fee for the service.

Re: TSA fingerprint agencies
You can drive to the Sheriffs office in Shelby, Montana. They do it. You need to call them first and make arrangements before you show up.i have no ideas where to look for a nearest office in edmonton to do my TSA fingerprints.

Re: TSA fingerprint agencies
I did my prints about 18 months ago. The TSA rep doing fingerprints in Edmonton had just closed up shop a couple weeks earlier. I tried contacting someone in Saskatoon, however I believe they had shut down too. The options available were Toronto, and Montreal. I did mine in Toronto on a layover. For anybody residing in the west who doesn't venture to Ontario or Quebec the fingerprinting is a huge pain in the A$$. You're better off to travel south to the states and get it done there.
Re: TSA fingerprint agencies
North Cariboo has a person (in the Calgary office) who is TSA approved for fingerprinting. Give them a call.

Re: TSA fingerprint agencies
I know some Flight Safety campuses have an approved finger print person on site. As long as you get them done and approved by TSA before you start in the sim you're good to go. Although if you don't get approved you (or your employer) have wasted a butt load of money.
Re: TSA fingerprint agencies
Yes, North Cariboo can do it (YYC). Also someone in Saskatoon, apparently. Other than that, it's a trip to the U.S. side.

Re: TSA fingerprint agencies
As has been said, Kreos Aviation in Saskatoon has a staff member who is authorized to do it; she did mine for me last fall. Very pleasant woman to deal with and as an added bonus you can go to the only remaining Fuddruckers in Canada for lunch afterward.
