College Training

Post by Pingu »

Hi all,

I need your suggestions in terms of college training. I have read through a lot of these post and come to believe that it can be absolutely hell choosing this career. However, I still want to go though with it and I need some advise in terms of training. I have applied to Canadore and Centennial (Canadore having the AME-S program) I have read through the course cirriculum difference between AME-M and S training. Is it possible to do both at the same time? Therefore me going to Canadore. Also, would it be any benfit to have both at the same time? or Would that be unwise but rather study one and then slowly get to the other? By no means am I trying to start some kind of college argument. I just wan to know which is the better route. Thanks in advance.

No.

'S' is quicker. The pay is about the same.

It depends on where you work. Usually, no.

Some smaller shops have 'M' guys with their sheetmetal ticket. They don't get paid better.

You're all over "unwise" considering either one. Considering both is foolhardy.

This is avcanada, it doesn't take much to stir up an argument.
I just wan to know which is the better route. Thanks in advance.
You're welcome.

I'm a M2 and sometimes I think going S would have been a better route. It depends on you though. If you like working on your car and other machines, fixing T/S ect go M. If you like carpentry, building, molding, forming, ect go S. From what I've seen S hours are better and you don't have to work on the line for the most part so no gross shifts, well that dosn't mean much, there may be a huge job that needs to be done. Ive only been doing this for about 8 years so I don't have the chip on my shoulder yet that seems to be permiating the posts as of late, I say welcome to aviation and hopefully you (and I) won't be thinking we made a huge mistake at 50. Oh and if you don't want to actually do anything go E

i went to canadore and recently graduated last may in the M program, its a good course and you learn alot but like it has already been said if you like making things from scratch then go S and if you like to use your " outside the box thinking " then go M and just like other ppl here i dont have much of the real knowledge but ive been working in the north since i graduated so ive gotten to troubleshoot some stuff and see that M guys up here get alot more of the overtime but also we get more of the work till 3am or go fly 4 hours north to do a 10 min job. all depends on the type of person. Canadore is a good school though and in ontario its said by most employers that if u fail canadore u go to centennial and if u fail centennial then you go to confederation haha i dont really know how well the other schools are though, this is just hear-say from people i know in the industry. good luck with whatever you choose though

Chowda, Nah I'm between contracts right now so my BS reserves are getting built up again. I think the best thing for me was to remember that there is a reason we have wheels on our tool boxes. I liked pointing that out to the bosses.
