Canadore,Confederation,Centennial?

Post by AvNewb »

I am quite new to this whole forum thing so go easy on me. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on which college would be best for the AME-E course. AME-M past or present students are welcome to add their 2 cents. I would prefer to stay in Ontario. Thank You

I think they are all pretty good after all they have to follow the requirments set down by TC.
It is how your perform on your first job after graduation that will set you a part from the other apprentices not what school you went to.
Went to Con myself met guys from all over in the field that went to various diff schools and for the mojority of them it did not matter what school they went to.
Unless you are there to party and not get a education maybe someone else can enlighten you as to which city maybe more to you likeing.

Canadore! Because I went there. hahaha.

It doesn't matter which one. Employers are not looking for a specific school. All are accredited. All are good.
Just depends where in Ontario you want to go.

Confederation doesn't have an avionics program and may not be getting it any time soon. According to the gentleman in charge of the program (his name escapes me at the moment), Con has had avionics on the radar for a while, but hasn't followed through on the program.

...Good question but almost impossible to answer.

I agree with the above posts. All are acredited and therefore all meet the minimum requirements of Transport Canada and are audited yearly. However all do not have the same equipment to offer. An "E" program is very expensive to start and to maintain because of the cost of equipment.

I have seen most of the schools in Canada and some in Europe and the US and I would have to say that Canada does it best...that being said BCIT in Vancouver seems to have the best equipment. I did a tour of their new facility last fall and it blows everything else I've seen out of the water.

It is all up to you as to what you get out of it...remember, they all meet the minimum requirements.

I know you want to stay in Ontario but chances are you may have to move after graduation anyway. You should not put any limitations on where you need to go to get your education and the first two and a half years of work is still considered education in the minds of TC.

Fill your boots...experience life...experience Canada!

Good Luck!!

Canadore College is the top school in Canada for Aircraft Maintenance Personnel. Very new facility, excellent staff and North bay is a decent place to live. Have you ever been to Scarborough? what a hole.

Having worked with Maintenance apprentices from several different schools, I havn't seen much of a difference from school to school. It's all what you put into it and your attitude. I went to Confederation. The Facilities are nice, the equipment is so- so, the classes are small and the professors take a big interest in helping you succeed. The tuition is half of what BC IT's (I'm not sure what the other Ontario Colleges charge) Thunderbay is really cheap to live in and has all the amenities of the big city as well of very good out doors type activities.

Whoa ....... there..... Easy on the Scarberia bashing......

How about some positives? Like the Walmart Supercentre right across the road?

Maybe he might like to play cricket on the weekends right in the park? Or just watch?

Or just hang out on Mike Myers Blvd (street? Rd?) Hey are they still stealing that sign?

Ah memories........

I say if you live in Toronto go to Centennial.....

Stay away from centennial, I've only worked with one apprentice from there and I was not impressed, there is also no airport there and the crime rate is much higher. Scarborough is a gigantic S hole.

Canadore on the other hand has a relatively new facility (2003) at the North Bay airport. Great little community and yes their mall is open on boxing day too, walmart included. Ski Hill in the winter, lots of outdoorsy stuff too. The instructors are aviation professionals from all fields and some even still work in the summer. Only a 4 hr. drive to t.o. And if you stay in residence, you'll get to meet lots dental hygene students :).

Confed is in thunder bay, that's all i know.

You got the statistics for that?

Don't be s-hi-ting on a place unless you have been there and done that.

I have worked with more than one Centennial grad and can say the just the opposite.

If I was still living in Scarborough and was thinking about schools I would consider Centennial.

And what the F#@@%$#%$#%#$ does North Bay have?

Oh yea Voyageur! Bombardier? Oh wait there is a university there? Teacher college?

Right on. go for it!!!!!!

Dental hygiene students? Aim higher. Aim for a teacher.

That way when you retire she (he) will support the both of you.
