I know a Harley guy that teaches the motocycle safety course in a city in Southwestern Ontario and is really into all different kinds of bikes. He told me the Bandit is one of the best deals out there and almost bought one. That was a couple of years ago- so 2007.

While usually I'd agree with you, the 650 will cruise all day at 130 kph plus, and has a top end of well over 200 kph, how much do I really need?
Add to that, the 650 is going for 6400$ and the 1250 goes for 11K. After tax, that's more than 5K difference! I don't finance my toys, so that 5K is "real" money. To say nothing of the fact it's half the cost to insure. That's two weeks in Italy for the two of us.

Doc, the Bandit is a great bike. I really like my '04 1200. The combination of sporty styling with a more touring seating position makes it a fabulous all-rounder. The air cooled engine is dead easy to work on and maintain yourself, the carbs are reliable and also easy to maintain and it has gobs of tourque for very easy riding at any RPM. It's a bullet proof bike that will run forever. The 600 is also nice but you have to rev more - like 7.000 rpm to get into the power.
Used ones are often real value as the owners tend to be a little more mature and experienced and they aren't as thrashed as many of the litre-bikes.
