Hi!
I recieved an interview with Ornge. Am very excited about it. Can anyone tell me what kind of questions to expect and what I should anticipate. From reading other threads, I see that they have 2 interviews. Does the hiring process take a long time?
PM me with the details if you prefer.
Many thanks
M

"Tell us about a time in aviation..." type of questions. Personality based stuff mostly. Some technical - know the CAP GEN.
Panel of 3-4, friendly, you doing lots of talking with them note taking.
fyi there IS a Training Bond. $10,000 cash up front for one year. Not pro-rated.

Are they calling for Captains, F/O's, or both at this time? Any PC-12 related questions or just general knowledge and IFR?
And there IS a training bond????? Interesting ...

I don’t want to discourage you but they like to interview pilots just for fun or maybe to justify their tax payer money salaries.
They have been running interviews since October.
Know your Cap Gen from a to z, that's all I can tell you.

Well I was actually wary of weather or not they were giving interviews just to justify their positions... Voyageur did the same thing to me 2 months ago. So I called them and asked them if they were actually hiring, cause I had another job offer as well. They told me that they indeed were.
Any other tips would be much appreciated.

Does that 10,000 dollar training bond apply to FO's as well, who only require a PCC, therefore very little training?

That 10k figure was for a Captain. But if FO's do simcom as well then it maybe it does.

So, let's say the FO does the simcom, but then they don't get a PPC, only a PCC... I suppose Ornge will want the pilot to renew their own IFR as well??

Hate to say, I told you so.
If pilots had any pride at all, they would boycott these morons.
I, for one have ZERO respect for any pilot who would stoop to this new low.
There have been comments about Ornge "raising the bar"? Just one more douche bag company screwing stupid pilots!
Have some pride people.

OK OK OK... Forget about the bond. Getting side tracked here. Threads on this site always lead up to this same argument.
I just wanna know what kind of CAP GEN questions they will ask. ie. Alternate Minimas? Definition of DH? RVR?...
Thanks in advance.

You should just know the CAP GEN... everything in it that would apply to flying a PC-12.

You figure it out. If you still want to work there after reading this thread, you are part of the problem. You're on you own.

Well... DOC... their might be a bond but the actual salary is quite good. Its the same evil as working in Sioux Lookout for 30k. Bond or no bond. I have to take what Im offered.

With all due respect my fellow colleague, the Cap Gen is not too big.

I disagree with bonds, but I see that most of the guys that are saying ''don't take that job'' are currently employed, so try to explain this to somebody who has a family, it's unemployed and desperate need to work.

One thing I can say is read the fine prints and cover your ass before you sign anything.

Here's a good one.
If they give you the opportunity to ask a question, ask the interviewer if they had to fork out $10,000 for the job they have.
If it wasn't such a cost and hassle to go out and take the interview, that's what I would say. Bonds would disappear as soon as pilots refuse to take them. Other occupations--even with private companies--require training expenses that are 100% the responsibility and risk of the company. It is the company's responsibility to ensure they have chosen and candidate that is up to the task and a measure of good will that the employee stays there. A company has immeasurably more earning power than a low-time F/O and if an employee gets a better offer, either it's time to up the compensation a bit or write off the loss.
But no, there is always someone willing to do your job for less and no escape for the hapless pilot who might have good faith, but has to commit to a company regardless of the working conditions.

If they are so bloody desperate, where are they going to get 10K?

Maybe they'll do it the same way VAL does... walk you into the bank and tell the bank manager you got a job and need the money. The thing is VAL doesn't actually co-sign the loan, so they're not on the hook for it.

first, not all the training bonds requires money upfront, second if you are going to have a salary you would be able to pay off your debt with the bank.

If you pay 10K to buy a job, you are a moron. Pure, and simple.
My opinion as a poster...not as a mod.

Hey Doc, take it easy, I won't pay anything, I knew the ornge thing was a joke just 5 minutes after starting my interview with them.(you can call this life experience) I didn't receive a call for a second interview yet but if they call me I'll say no thanks now that I know all about the bond.
Just try to imagine for a minute, you have a wife and a kid to feed and bills to pay, no job, and your bank account is almost in red, then somebody offers you a job with a bond you have to pay if you leave before 1 or 2 years (I'm not talking about money upfront here), honestly what would you do?
It may be easy to say don't do that when you have a pretty stable job in a very decent company and is not you who is having a hard time. capicci? Don't make me wrong, BONDS ARE WRONG, and are a shame for aviation, I understand that.
