Best operator at Red Lake
Can anyone suggest the best operator to work for in Red Lake, ie. working conditions and pay?
Thanks
Thanks
Re: Best operator at Red Lake
The best operator in Red Lake is the one that will hire you and decent to you in the way of work conditions, pay and time off when needed. As for pay, dock hand should be around $2,000 per month with some flight time when the plane is dead heading with only cargo till you get time in. By the end of the summer you should be able to be flying. As for pilot pay, depends on the aircraft used. That is for another post as to pilot pay.
Re: Best operator at Red Lake
I was looking for something more specific, as to pilots who worked in Red Lake and had experience with a couple of the operators ...
to see which pays well and don't expect you to be a construction engineer as well as flying etc.

Green always struck me as a classy operation.
Re: Best operator at Red Lake
Green Airways is a great operation. Bob makes everything work and is a real inspiration to work with. Jack is alright but stays more in the background as the money man. The equipment is well-maintained, although very little is spent on cosmetics. Norm knows his stuff, but I think is retired now. The flying is relatively easy, although the ridge enroute to Trout Lake is a bit scary in low ceilings and low vis. I didn't like the dock-ballet with the Otter, but everybody has an opinion. If the money was better, I'd fly there..
Drinking lots of coffee lately, at a nice safe jungle desk, wishing I were flying......

-Chestyunexperianced guys beakin off about how much they "should be worth" without any experiance. Fly an otter for $4000/m gets some "whiskers" then ask for the money later. I don't buy the bullshit of "I wouldn'...
Just don't get Professor Chesty to try and teach it to you.
Lui pis Granny, et Old Dad etait du fun.

Try Showalters in Ear Falls sometime- they've got a good reputation and satisfied pilots from what I gather.
Think about what it is that you're looking to get out of the next four months and how having a job in Red helps you get there. Once you figure that out, there'll be a few obvious rule-outs for various reasons; then beyond that, it's up to you to make what you want out of the places that are left and will offer you a position. I've heard guys that have had good times at each of the major operators on Howey Bay. Keeper River Air at the field has a good reputation among the locals, similarly Mark at Kenora's Red Lake base is a really good guy. You can do well at any of those spots, but just keep in mind that the history that Red's reputation is based on is long past, and it's not an easy place to be a pilot anymore by any standard. Not to be any discouragement- Red's a blast if you go in with the right mindset and down to earth expectations. The fishing isn't half bad either.

Chimo Air is good too. Never had any issues with them in the past. Ole Cptn Nerdley must be gettin ready to retire. Peter always treated his pilots good, Hopefully CFS has cleaned up their bullshit act.

Thanks for the great feedback, am curious as another page suggests Beaver pilot on the West Coast gets $5K,
I see that is not the case with Sask or Northwestern Ont.? they like to pay alot less, more like $3,700. 00....to $4,000.00 ; is there minumum pay with experienced Beaver pilots anyone knows of?
I felt $4,500.00 should be minimum for Beaver pilot!
Any thoughts???

Re: Best operator at Red Lake
Really! I must be a bad negotiator, for I hate when they ask me what are "you looking for wages"...
So this is for Beaver flying? you ask $6k ???
If you know of areas where they hire and pay well I would like to know as Ontario seems not a good place...Chimo offers very little for one !

Re: Best operator at Red Lake
Chimo may not offer the best pay but I enjoyed a pretty iconic lifestyle working there! Renting a lakefront cabin, boating to work, drinking cold beers on the dock after a long day driving a Norseman. I feel kinda stupid to have left but whats a guy to do for the other 6 months of the year? I'm hoping one day I'll be back!! Capt. Nerdly is the best CP I've ever had, and the other boys are top notch! Just try not to get Peter'd!!!!! Good luck with the season boys!!
Re: Best operator at Red Lake
"Just try not to get Peter'd!!!!" Mr. North are you saying chicks at Red Lake are contaminated....
I thought there be plenty of talent there?
