Was curious to know what is currently happening at Perimeter.
Are they still only taking guys off the ramp?
What is a typical wait time?
Any other tips or advice?
Thanks!

Only taking guys/girls from within the company, typical wait time is approx a year... sooner if you go through the flight school. Things are picking up right now though, the last 2-3 guys they took off the ramp were less than a year with the last guy being around 8 months

What's the progression at Perimeter?
I assume its off the ramp into co-joe on Metro, down on to the Baron for a bit then back onto the Metro?
Also, how is the wait shorter if you go through the flight school?
Cheers!

There are only 2 bag run spots, so not everyone who goes captain on the metro does the bag run first, but it is encouraged. And it is great experience too.
So progression is rampie/instructor - FO - maybe bagrun captain - metro captain.
Times are faster at the flight crew because there is less instructors than rampies. Hiring is sometimes 1 and 1, sometimes 2 from the ramp. Depends, nothing is for sure. People have been passed over before from both the school and from the ramp. Attitude plays a big role in it, as does performance in an interview, sim ride, and groundschool. There have been people who washed out as late as their metro training, and as early as the interview process. Working on the ramp or at the school is by no means a guarantee of getting on the metro.

I would assume that the upgrades will be faster for the instructors due to the larger amount of pic time and TT. Can u teach the Multi/IFR and still get bag runs?

All the instructors are PPC'd and do bag runs on a rotation. Progression from instructor to metro is about 1 year.

That has absolutely nothing to do with it. Simple mathematics and ratios. If the FOs are hired equally from the ramp and from the school, with 15+ rampies and 5 or 6 instructors, well, you can figure it out.

Keep an eye out for how Skyward makes out. Probably Perimeters closest competition. Could mean expansion for Perimeter.

Almost half of their instructors are earmarked for the Metro so if I had 1000hrs PIC and a Class3 I'd be over there once a week. Their instructors are maxed out with students until the spring.
250 hour wonders--that trained there or elsewhere-- are greeted by the chief pilot and given a lovely tour of the facility, are promptly handed over to the cargo manager and told to take a number and if he likes you, to buy some work gloves and develop a liking for Mr.Noodles and early mornings. The last 2 rounds of hiring have been from within and management has been very loyal to everyone on the ramp and while the training for Metro F/O isn't easy, they seem to have really taken a "let's help them learn" attitude rather than "let's make the rampy's life hell".
Doing your IFR with them gives you an excuse to visit cargo to bug the manager, but it doesn't really mean much. Most on the ramp are out of province and even a few Red River/WFC people, so training with them isn't a free ticket in. If you are a knob, it will show in cargo long before you get into a plane; if that is the case, the closest you will get to a Metro is the rear door loading chips bound for Island Lake.

Couldn't have said it myself.
The rampies definitely work hard and for not great pay, but morale is high from what I see.
4 more new hires planned for March.

2 off the ramp, 1 from dispatch, and 1 from the flight school apparently.
Congrats and good luck to all!

When I talked to the CP he said that they are only taking people from within the company. He said that it would be 1-2 years at that time. I know a guy who did get in from outside some month before this but he had worked the ramp for them before so they already knew him. He really loves working there! Apparently it is a good company to work for but pay isn't great even for fo's.
Keep at them if that is the type of flying that you want to do.
