AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
See that they are looking for FO's all over Canada, does that mean they called back all those laid off in the winter already ?

Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
Interesting how the required minimums have steadily increased from 500tt, through 1000 and now posted as 1500hrs!

There is a down side to filling your right seats with higher time drivers.....when the industry opens up again, they are more likely to scamper off to greener pastures....just a thought.

Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
You can't blame the company they are just doing what makes sense from an operational stand point as well as financial.

Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
Actually, what they are doing makes no sense from either an operational or financial stand point. You don't need 1500 hours to sit right seat in a PC12. These positions are better suited to lower time pilots. They'll stick around longer, therefore recouping the company's investment. Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
Nope. They'll stay because if they're any good they'll be made captain at a great company. These guys know what they're doing, and it is a great sign for us all that they are preparing for growth again.

You keep dreaming that dream there, Stef. Pilots are pilots. As soon as they get a chance to jump to the left seat of a twin, they're gone. That eventuality will happen much further down the road if they hire low time pilots. And, the way things are (not) going, they wont be needing "captains" for a wee while yet.
Companies hire over qualified pilots, then bitch and moan when they leave. How long do you think your crews will stick around for a single engine gig, once things start to happen?
Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
Precisely, I'd be sticking around for quite a while as I am a decent ways away from an ATPL. However all those companies see is 400tt and I get filed under G.
Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
Woohoo I'm in the round file!!! That's good... isn't it?
I'de stick around, but no one wants me :'{ Oh but I am a low timer, where could I possibly run to? To fly another desk? Not likely. Now, maybe if I had about say, 1500 hours, I would be more interested in leaving for something better. Why? Because I want to be closer to my family, making multi PIC, making better money, maybe even with a company I feel may get me further.
Just my 2 cents from a low time perspective.

Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
Heres an idea for all of you complaining about how shitty the industry is and blah blah blah.. Nobody with more than say 700hrs apply for the job.. flood them with solely lower timed resumes. Pretyy much force em to hire guys who can and will stick around a bit longer

Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
Lets say someone gets hired in the right seat with around 1700hrs.. How long would it take to move over to the left seat and what are they paying FOs now.
Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
Well thats going to take a lot more time to get into and get PIC on, then say ohhhh a navajo..... I mean, if you wanted multi Pic...
Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
This could be part of where training bonds came from? Companies hire guys with 1500-2000 hours for right seats. They're bored stiff. Get an offer from next door to fly a King Air.....off they go. Company gets all pissed off. But, in reality they shot them self in the foot!
Same company hires a guy with 250-500 hours for the right seat. Pilot is as happy as a pig in shit for at least two years.
Bottom line? The lower time pilot is a better investment! For an entry level right seat job on a PC12 or Caravan type job.
Companies THINK they are getting more "bang for the buck" with a 2000 hour guy......they just don't get it.
This is a huge part of why your pilots scamper off to greener pastures.

Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
Ah Doc,
The voice of intellience and common sense. Assuming said company provides me with a proper working environment I'd stay for a few years while logging some MPIC or SE turbine pic then scamper off. Want to know something else? I'd be happy doing it. As I said .. assuming I'm treated like a human being.
I think companies right now are trying to get more experienced drivers, slap on a bond and laugh.

Ever tried getting someone without much Pilot in command time approved by the insurance company ?

For the RIGHT seat of a single? Nice try.2R wrote:Ever tried getting someone without much Pilot in command time approved by the insurance company ?

Most PC-12 Operators that I know of are looking for 2500 TT, 1000 PIC.bravowhiskey wrote:Lets say someone gets hired in the right seat with around 1700hrs.. How long would it take to move over to the left seat and what are they paying FOs now.
Guess waiting time would vary pending if the industry is on the upswing
Pay would be around 25k.

Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
25K is terrible for 1500 hour pilots going right seat on a single. Are the conditions amazing to compensate for that? There must be something that would lure pilots with that much time and keep them there for a while.
Then they say it's the pilot's fault for jumping ship after only a few months on the job.

Well, I suppose desperation does strange things to people. However, I firmly believe that it's the responsibility of the applicant to get as much information as possible about the position... and, to assess their own situation to determine whether or not the position is appropriate for them or not.
Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace. The soul that knows it not, knows no release from the little things; knows not the livid loneliness of fear, nor mountain heights where bitter joy can hear the sound of wings.

I think it maybe more of a case the Wealthy are downsizing to a PC-12, from what I have heard through the grapevine the PC-12's are busy, as its not Kosher to show up in a jet during a downturn, hey look im cutting back too! a prop airplane with only one engine not the regular jet.
Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
I gotta go with Doc on this one....this is a very good example of how the industry is its own worst enemy and tends to eat its own babies....and I highly doubt for a second that the management at Air Sprint is considering the overall health of the industry in terms of long term labour flow(why would they? we dont demand it)....I know some of you guys look at Doc as coming from the 'older' generation and he does, so many of you in some way put the blame on him for the way things are today...but I highly doubt any of us have helped ourselves in this business either!?...think about it...the industry has not been working properly for decades...the flow of experienced labour is being artificially skewed due to this type of hiring practice...this type of hiring practice jumps over into the airlines when you have guys on 737's, A320's, RJ's etc making 35-40k....its wrong. Ofcourse when times are tough hiring is limited and pilots need to eat, but its a vicious revolving circle that never corrects because there is nothing in place to force it to correct(working for peanuts) You hire a low time guy, treat him well, train him, put him left seat when he is ready, be loyal and you will likely have an employee that is motivated, and happy to come to work and likely willing to give you a good few years. You take a guy with 1500-2000 hours to sit right seat on that machine(PC12) who already has 500 multi and like doc says he is bored and checking the job adds on avcanada at every FBO he stops at....gone as soon as he can.
Re: AirSprint Job Ad for First Officers
omg, im SOOOOOOOO tired of pilots constantly whining and whining. this industry is filled with more fucking babies than i've ever seen in my life. my girlfriend just finished 5 yrs of school including an un-paid internship and will definitely NOT be able to find a job in her specific career field at this particular moment because of the industry...on a world-wide basis.
ya, things are slow in aviation, but if most of you got your head out of your ass, you'd see the entire world is in the same shape, more or less. in fact, some other countries outside of north america are even worse off.
if air sprint wants to raise the mins, who gives a shit? if they can get higher time pilots, why wouldn't they? so, you argue as soon as things start moving everyone will bail? everyone bails everywhere anyways when things are moving. it's not a valid argument. even lower time pilots could still move on....
not to mention, i seriously doubt things are going to take-off with the kind of movement we saw a year ago. it's not gonna happen overnight. supply and demand. a 5 yr old could understand it. yet, people like doc can't.....
