REGINA — A pilot escaped serious injury when a light aircraft made an emergency landing inside the boundary of the Regina International Airport around 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Airport CEO Jim Hunter said he's been told the aircraft, a homebuilt, became airborne on takeoff, but had problems with its canopy and made an emergency landing "with minimal impact" near the eastern edge of the airport property facing Lewvan Drive.
The aircraft is leaning forward on its nose with a few airport fire crews and EMS units surrounding it.
He said the aircraft was intact and the pilot was well enough to have been examined by emergency medical personnel.
Although one taxiway that connects with a runway was closed after the incident, the use of the runway itself was not disrupted, he said.
As of 11:30 a.m., he had no information on the name or hometown of the pilot, but said the aircraft was a homebuilt known as a Lancer.
