Who's hiring AME apprentices?
Hello all! I'm just looking for some advice. I'm a Cat. M AME apprentice with just over a year's worth of experience. I'm currently working in London, but I'm going to be moving to the Kitchener Waterloo area in the next couple of months. Does anyone know of any AMOs in that area, or even at Pearson or Hamilton who might possibly be looking to hire apprentices right now?

He's probably texting while he is driving. (Well I'm assuming that it's a he, could be a she). Don't send resumes over your crack berry bombing down the 401. Post your resume and we can help you with it. Just take out your name and address so we don't stalk you.
Re: Who's hiring AME apprentices?
what do u think? was that helpful?
what do you think that i write a resume using broken words?
no i didnt call them after submitting resume. Do i need to call them?
I have attached the resume along-with. Please review it and send me some feedback.
thanks

Whenever possible physically bring in your resume, than 2 weeks later, show up again or call. Just putting stamps on a bunch of resumes does nothing.
Re: Who's hiring AME apprentices?
I have applied online. I havent applied personally because i dont know any place where we can go to submit the resumes.
the cascade or even air canada or any airlines dont let us go inside their MRO.

Getthat:
Have you graduated from an approved school for AME's? Centennial? BCIT?
Or....
Are you looking to start in aviation with no formal (AME) schooling?
You will hard pressed to find a company that will hire someone as an "apprentice" with no approved schooling. Unless it is someone you know.
You are competing with people who have invested at least two years in an approved AME (M E S) program.
If you have experience from another country and you don't want to go back to school then you might try the Thomson Learning correspondence course. That will give basic training. Then 4 years of working and studying on your own before you can write and get your licence.
It will be extremely difficult getting an apprentice position without a (AME) formal education or previous experience.
Gotthat?

i am already approved to write the exams. Transport Canada have accepted my education. and I already have done not just 2 years but full 3 years of AME approved schooling. And I already have 6 months of field experience as a trainee ame. But since I have whole 1 year to write the exam, I am thinking of working as an apprentice so that i can get some more experience on the field.
maybe the hiring peoples too have the confusion so I am not really getting much responses. My basic training(ab-initio) is approved by ICAO.
I think I have to go personally for applying, not just online i guess.
Thanks

Re: Who's hiring AME apprentices?
GT,
Your CV looks good, maybe format it so it highlights points (make it brief). The windows office suites have not bad templates that you can use. But I think you are on the right track though, go down and meet people. If you phone the receptionist they will generally give you the name of the supervisors of the departments, then give them a call.
Sorry about giving you a hard time earlier, its just first impressions are aways so important, there are a few people that get on here with lousy spelling and type "texting style" which generally rankles the AME crowd. The crop of apprentices that are being churned out presently have been a source of frustration for the industry the past couple of years. I think its mostly a Gen Y thing but my point is you want to stand out from the newbies and the best way to do that is to be polished, even when posting quick questions on here.
Good Luck

Re: Who's hiring AME apprentices?
My advice then is get the study books/guides (CAR´s study guide definitely) if you need them and write the exams. What is the worst that can happen? You fail one and have a month to think about it and get ready to write the exam a second time.i am already approved to write the exams
You could work for the rest of your life and never encounter some of the questions ion those exams in real life.
And yes people still pound on doors to get their foot in door. Just not maybe at AC...
And do follow up with a telephone call (if that is possible).
I remember a cousin that sent out more than 100 letters looking for employment (in a different field). I think she kept a folder and tracked each letetr she sent out. It was a lot of hard work and a lot of cold telephone calls and it took her months .....
And being in the right place at the right time...
Sorry domven01 for taking this in a different direction.
How about Air Georgian? I think Skyservice Airlines laid a few guys off. Skyservice BAS is still slow. If anyone sees those RJ´s move into the Hangar then they might hire. Jazz had overtime for their guys in Toronto recently. How about Porter down at the Island airport? Bombardier but that is production line for Q400...Also something with the Globals....
There´s other operators in the North end. I doubt Field Aviation is hiring apprentices. You could alwayse go to the north end of Pearson and drop off your resume by hand.
