Hey people, I have a friend who has an itch to be in BC. He's into skiing, mountain biking and crap.
We all know it's expensive to live out there.
He has an M1, piston and turboprop time, floats and wheels and good with sheet metal.
All around good mechanic!
What kind of wage could somebody like that pull in out there where you guys are?
Thanks

Re: Vancouver area pay????
It was mid to high twenties an hour, depending on how long he's been at it, with me leaning more to the $25 a/hr.
Almost all south terminal operators at yvr are cheap, with most crew chiefs maxing out at $30-$32.
Your looking at an average $1000 a month for rent, and if you go cheaper, long commutes to work in awesome lower mainland traffic. BC also taxes the shit out of its residents(fuel just had its tax increased on the 1st), and provides very little in return.
If he really loves the stuff you mention, yeah, it is one of the better places to partake in, but he would find it hard to get ahead. I know many down there who are cheque to cheque, and have been so for years.
If anything, I'd recommend your buddy find work somewhere else more affordable, and take his holidays out here.

Re: Vancouver area pay????
I am the guy that was thinking about migrating west but I am afraid that with the information provided it will never be possible. I currently reside in YXL and this here in northwestern ontario are not the cheapest in the country but our wages here are on par or more. How does anyone afford to buy a house out there with those wages. You would think that the wages would increase with the cost of living but I guess if you live in a desirable area of the country companies and pay whatever they want and people will still come. I guess for now I will just have to vacation there like you said.
Thanks for the input.
