Hey I was doing some looking through the transport canada site at the list of operators. I found a few that are not on pilot career centre or on avcanada for information. Anyone know anything about Wamair? Fleet, maintence, what it is like in the area, anything really.
Thanks HTAK

It used to be a gong show but im told things have improved slightly. Im not sure how with the same owner,...but 15 yrs ago, guys RAN from the place. Take a CLOSE look before you accept any position.
Fly safe all.

They lost a Chieftain year before last. Engine calved on takeoff, I think the pilot almost made it around for a landing but ended up short in a swamp. No injuries thankfully, so good job on that. As far as I know its run by a First Nations guy and there is little to no accomodation for pilots there. Ya, there were some horror stories on the forum here a while back, but as the man says, things might have improved, so I wouldn't want to make unfair comments.
Maybe somebody with recent knowledge can post up some new info.

William A. Mowatt. owner =WAM Not a "first nations" person, although im sure on that island some mixing of local economies has taken place over the years.
From memory going a few years back....206, 208x2, 185, beaver, otter. not sure if the pa31 has been replaced. Mainstay has been the northern store freight contracts to communities across the lake along with pax. I believe they recently(year or two ago) took over the northway strip in pinedock but not sure what if any a/c they got with the deal.
Typical get in get hours get out mom and pop operation. Pilots have been low time wonders in the past. Not sure now. Met the owner a few times, nice guy, personable etc. But like many operators there tends to be a jekyll/Hyde things that happens once they own you via paycheck.
My advice, make the drive. 1-2 hours north of ywg i believe. Good place for someone with 300 hours, not such a good place for someone with 1000 hours. You will be worked but former pilots that I have known have gone on to much better things.
GL.

Wamair bought out Skyline maintenance & Avionics a few years back, that is they'r maintenance facility. I cannot comment on the air operation. But I do know that they'r main AME currently working there is solid. I worked with him for close to five years.(as a apprentice) Super experienced and super smart AME. Goes back to Barney Lamb days. My 2 cents.

Worked there recently and would advise against it. Many questionable operating procedures. They are always hiring so if someone does get a job there I can help you out with necessary information.

I don't know much about them, but as of 10 years ago, the term 'gong show' comes to mind. Who knows, Randy, maybe shit-leopards can change their shit-stripes!

I worked there recently and would *ABSOLUTELY* advise against going up there. Messy little gong shows like this need to go, for the good of the industry.

They should not be shut down yet because SMS will soon be in force for all operators and these companies will change into great operations.

Well, there you have it. It sounds like one to avoid. I've seen these kind of operations and worked for one years ago and would never do it again! Ah yes, wrecked equipment, garbage everywhere...sound very much like one of our "pristine" northern communities!

I worked there for awhile both kathy and william are really good people they gave me every opportunity to succeed my heart was not in Manitoba. I would say that if you have something bad to say make sure you leave your candy ass name behind so you can back it up. I will try to remmeber to send the key for the Cabin as soon as I can and thanks for trying to help me with my career even if i was only there for a short while all the best to you folks.
